A refurbished GE BrightSpeed costs $85,000 to $185,000 in 2026, delivered, installed and warrantied. The BrightSpeed Excel (4 slice) sits at $85,000 to $115,000, the Edge (8 slice) at $95,000 to $135,000 and the Elite (16 slice) at $110,000 to $185,000. It is the compact GE scanner built for rooms that will not take a full-size system, and it anchors the 16-slice band of our CT scanner cost guide; new 16-slice systems run $350,000 to $525,000.

This guide covers what the BrightSpeed family is, the Excel, Edge, Elite and Select configurations, our 2026 range, what moves a BrightSpeed quote, what to check before you buy, who it suits against the LightSpeed 16 and the Optima CT660, and how to buy one through MO Select. Specifications are GE’s published figures, checked 28 September 2026.

Overview

What Is the GE BrightSpeed CT?

GE BrightSpeed is a family of compact CT scanners introduced in 2005 and built on LightSpeed VCT technology in a smaller, lower-power package for community hospitals, outpatient centres and urgent care. Three configurations were sold: the BrightSpeed Excel with 4 slices, the BrightSpeed Edge with 8 and the BrightSpeed Elite with 16, each also offered as a Select version with a reduced option set at a lower price.

The BrightSpeed Elite is the one most buyers want: 16 slices per rotation from the HiLight matrix detector, a 0.5-second rotation and, per GE, up to 0.35 mm isotropic resolution, which covers head, chest, abdomen, spine and orthopaedic work at the throughput a smaller site needs. ASiR iterative reconstruction, up to 40 percent dose reduction per GE, was available on later Elite builds.

The family was designed around a compact gantry and modest power requirements, and it remains one of the easiest CT scanners to site. GE replaced it with the Optima CT540 and the Revolution ACT, so every BrightSpeed is a refurbished purchase, and tube condition decides its value more than age does.

Price Drivers

What Moves the Price of a BrightSpeed

Two quotes for the same BrightSpeed can differ by a whole configuration. These are the lines that move the price, roughly in order of impact.

  • Slice count Elite 16 at the top, Excel 4 at the bottom
  • Tube condition The largest cost item on a used CT; a new or low-hour tube moves the price
  • Select or full option set Select units cost less and carry fewer options
  • Console generation A later console with current software is worth paying for
  • Detector condition Calibrated with no dead channels, or a repair line
  • Warranty and tube coverage Our range includes the MO Select warranty with the tube position stated
Buying Checklist

What to Check Before You Buy a Used BrightSpeed

A used BrightSpeed is bought on its records. These are the checks our engineers run and the questions to put to any seller before you sign.

  • Slice count and Select status: Confirm Excel, Edge or Elite and whether it is a Select build from the system data; get the installed options in writing.
  • Tube hours and scan seconds: Ask for the tube’s install date, scan seconds and arc history; it decides the value of a BrightSpeed more than the year does.
  • Detector calibration: Ask for the last calibration and a phantom image.
  • Console and software: Confirm the console generation, the software version and DICOM connectivity.
  • Gantry and table: Slip ring, high-voltage tank, table drive and weight rating; ask what has been replaced.
  • Room and power: The BrightSpeed’s compact footprint and low power draw are its selling point; confirm the room and the supply against the specification.
  • Support horizon: Confirm GE’s support position and the independent parts route; the family is well supported today.
Fit

Who the BrightSpeed Suits, and the Alternatives

The BrightSpeed suits sites that need reliable everyday CT in a room that will not take a larger system.

  • Urgent care centres and orthopaedic practices adding a first CT
  • Outpatient imaging centres and smaller hospitals replacing an ageing 4 or 8-slice
  • Sites with limited power or floor space
  • GE sites that want one service ecosystem

How to Buy

How to Buy a BrightSpeed

  1. Send the room, the power supply and the case mix. Room dimensions, shielding, the electrical supply and the exams you run decide the slice count before the model does.
  2. Choose the configuration. Slice count, tube, dose-reduction and cardiac licences and console generation, matched to the case mix.
  3. Get the tube position in writing. Tube install date, scan seconds and the coverage terms are the single largest cost item on a used CT, so we state them on the quote.
  4. Survey the site. Shielding, power, HVAC and the rigging route, before the scanner is bought.
  5. Schedule the de-installation and rigging. Transport and installation are in our price; the schedule is agreed with your facilities team.
  6. Agree the warranty and service term. The MO Select warranty is written, with the tube coverage stated; a service contract for the years after it is quoted alongside.
  7. Applications training and go-live. Protocol set-up, physicist acceptance testing and technologist training on site.

We quote within one business day and deliver, install, train and support across the United States, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean through an ISO 13485:2016 certified quality system. Request a BrightSpeed quote » Current availability is on the MO Select BrightSpeed product page.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a GE BrightSpeed CT cost?
A refurbished GE BrightSpeed costs $85,000 to $185,000 in 2026 delivered, installed and warrantied: $85,000 to $115,000 for an Excel (4 slice), $95,000 to $135,000 for an Edge (8 slice) and $110,000 to $185,000 for an Elite (16 slice), with Select units at the lower end of each range. New 16-slice systems run $350,000 to $525,000.
What is the difference between the BrightSpeed Elite and the Excel?
Slice count and options on the same platform: the Elite acquires 16 slices per rotation and the Excel 4. The Elite covers spine, chest and abdomen faster and with thinner slices; the Excel is the entry point for very light case loads.
Is a 16-slice BrightSpeed enough?
For head, spine, chest, abdomen and orthopaedic work, yes. Sites move beyond 16 slices mainly for cardiac and advanced vascular studies, which is where the 64-slice Optima CT660 comes in.
What does Select mean on a BrightSpeed?
A version of the Excel, Edge or Elite with a reduced option set at a lower price. The imaging chain is the same; confirm exactly which options are installed on the unit.
What is the difference between the BrightSpeed and the LightSpeed 16?
The same detector technology. The BrightSpeed packages it in a compact, low-power gantry for smaller rooms; the LightSpeed 16 is the full-size system with more options and higher power requirements.
How much room does a BrightSpeed need?
Less than any full-size CT; it was built for rooms that would not take a larger system. Confirm the power supply, shielding and HVAC against the specification; our CT scanner cost guide covers siting.
Does Medical Outfitters sell the GE BrightSpeed?

We supply BrightSpeed Elite, Edge and Excel systems refurbished through MO Select, fully tested with the tube position stated on the quote, delivered, installed by our own engineers and covered by a written warranty, across the United States, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
