How to choose a DEXA machine

A bone densitometer is bought on two decisions: central or peripheral, and new or refurbished. A central, full-body table scans the hip, spine and whole body and is the clinical standard for osteoporosis diagnosis, treatment monitoring and body composition; a peripheral unit scans the forearm or heel and suits screening in a clinic, pharmacy or wellness practice. The software modules you license, body composition, vertebral fracture assessment and trabecular bone score, decide what the same table can bill for. Used, refurbished and new DEXA machines for sale

A used DEXA machine for sale and a refurbished bone density machine next to it are the same class of equipment at different points in its service life; the difference is what was done to it before delivery and what is warrantied afterwards.

New DEXA machines. We sell the DMS Imaging Stratos line new: the Stratos central fan-beam densitometer, the Stratos DR with body composition, and the compact pencil-beam Stratos C. New buys you the current software, a full manufacturer warranty and the longest supported life.

Refurbished DEXA machines (MO Select). GE Lunar Prodigy and iDXA and Hologic Discovery and Horizon systems are sourced on request, then the detector and X-ray source are verified, the calibration is checked against a phantom, the software is confirmed and licensed, worn parts are replaced, and the system is delivered, installed and covered by a written warranty. Used DEXA machines. A used bone densitometer is tested and working but sold without a full rebuild. It is the lowest entry price and suits a practice with a service arrangement already in place. Ask about used units not yet listed, and about trading in the densitometer you are replacing.

Room, power and siting

DEXA uses very low radiation, so siting is simpler than CT or MRI: a central table needs floor space for the gantry arm to travel and for the technologist to position the patient, a level floor and a standard power supply; a peripheral unit sits on a bench or cart. Most states register a bone densitometer as an X-ray device and may ask for a shielding evaluation, which the low dose usually satisfies in a standard room. We survey the space before quoting so that delivery, installation and training are in the number.

Service, QC phantoms and warranty

A DEXA stays accurate through its calibration: the daily or weekly phantom scan is the routine that keeps readings comparable over years of treatment monitoring. Service contracts, repairs and preventive maintenance are available for DMS, GE Lunar and Hologic densitometers whether or not the system was purchased from us. Most bone densitometers can be bought outright or leased. Yes. We source used and refurbished GE Lunar and Hologic bone densitometers on request, as-is for practices with their own service arrangement or certified refurbished through MO Select with a written warranty, and we sell the DMS Imaging Stratos line new.

What comes with an MO Select refurbished DEXA?

The detector and X-ray source verified, the calibration checked against a phantom, the software confirmed and licensed, worn parts replaced, delivery, installation and operator training by our own crews, and a written parts and labor warranty.

Which DEXA brands do you sell new?

How much does a DEXA machine cost?

Can a DEXA machine measure body composition?

Central systems with the body-composition module can: fat mass, lean mass and visceral fat, which is why sports medicine and wellness practices buy the Stratos DR, the GE Lunar iDXA or a Hologic Horizon. Peripheral units measure bone density only.
