Published 28 September 2026. Product facts were checked against Siemens Healthineers documentation on 28 September 2026. Written by the Medical Outfitters sales and field engineering team.

A refurbished Siemens Artis zee costs $350,000 to $650,000 for a single-plane floor or ceiling system, $600,000 to $1,100,000 for a multipurpose system, $700,000 to $1,250,000 for a biplane and $750,000 to $1,300,000 for an Artis zeego in 2026, delivered, installed and warrantied. The current Siemens platforms, the Artis Q, ARTIS icono and Artis pheno, run an estimated $1,250,000 to $4,000,000 new through Siemens. The room is the other half of the budget: a cath lab is a construction project as much as an equipment purchase.

This guide covers what the Artis zee is, the floor, ceiling, biplane, multipurpose and zeego configurations, the two detector sizes, our 2026 ranges with new prices for comparison, what moves an Artis zee quote, what to check on a used angiography system, who it suits, and how to buy one. Specifications are Siemens Healthineers’ published figures, checked 28 September 2026. For mobile C-arms see our C-arm cost guide.

Overview

What Is the Siemens Artis zee?

The Siemens Artis zee is a family of fixed angiography systems, the cath labs and interventional radiology suites Siemens sold from 2008 into the late 2010s. Per Siemens it was built as a floor-mounted system for cardiology, workable in rooms of only 25 square metres; a ceiling-mounted system with the InFocus and IsoTilt features that hold the projection angle during stand rotation and table tilt; a biplane system with two small, two large or mixed detectors and two isocentric imaging positions; and a multipurpose (MP) system with a flexible architecture and right or left-side table suspension for mixed interventional and diagnostic work.

Two flat detectors were offered: a 20 x 20 cm detector for cardiac work and a 30 x 40 cm detector for vascular, neuro and body intervention, with a later HDR (high dynamic range) detector on the last builds. The imaging software is syngo: syngo DynaCT for CT-like soft-tissue volumes from a rotational run, syngo Dyna4D for time-resolved runs, CLEARmatch pixel-shift to compensate patient movement in DSA and roadmap, and automatic exposure control that adjusts tube current, focal spot, filtration, exposure time and voltage. The Artis zeego is the same imaging chain on a six-axis industrial robot with the 30 x 40 cm detector, used in hybrid operating rooms.

Siemens replaced the zee with the Artis Q and Q.zen, then the robotic Artis pheno and the current ARTIS icono, so the zee is now a refurbished purchase. It is also a construction project: the room, the radiation shielding, the ceiling structure for a ceiling-mounted or biplane system, the power supply and the control room are a large share of the total cost, which is why the quote for the system and the plan for the room have to be built together.

Price Drivers

What Moves the Price of a Artis zee

Two quotes for the same Artis zee can differ by a whole configuration. These are the lines that move the price, roughly in order of impact.

  • Configuration Single plane at the bottom, biplane and zeego at the top
  • Detector The 30 x 40 cm detector and the HDR detector carry a premium over the 20 x 20 cm
  • Tube and generator The tube is the largest wear item; a new or low-hour tube moves the price
  • syngo licences DynaCT, Dyna4D and the stent and flow packages are each a line
  • De-installation and rigging A ceiling or biplane system takes a crew and a crane; the scope is in our price
  • Room and shielding Not in the system price; scoped with your contractor
Buying Checklist

What to Check Before You Buy a Used Artis zee

A used Artis zee is bought on its records. These are the checks our engineers run and the questions to put to any seller before you sign.

  • Configuration and mounting: Confirm floor, ceiling, biplane, MP or zeego and which side the table is suspended from; a ceiling system needs the structure to match.
  • Detector: Confirm 20 x 20 or 30 x 40 cm and whether it is the HDR detector; test for dead pixels and lines and ask for the calibration history.
  • Tube and generator: Ask for the tube’s hours and exposure count and any arc history; confirm the generator rating.
  • syngo version and licences: Get the software version and the licensed packages (DynaCT, Dyna4D, CLEARstent, iFlow) in writing.
  • Stand and table: Test the stand motors, collision sensors and, on a zeego, the robot; check the table’s load rating and tilt.
  • Room, shielding and power: Scope the room, the radiation shielding, the ceiling structure and the electrical supply with your contractor before the system is bought.
  • Service and parts: Confirm who will service the system and the parts route; Siemens supports the installed base and the independent market covers the zee well.
Fit

Who the Artis zee Suits, and the Alternatives

An Artis zee suits programs that need a fixed interventional suite at a fraction of a new system’s price.

  • Hospitals adding a second cath lab or replacing an older single-plane system
  • Interventional radiology and vascular surgery programs (30 x 40 cm detector, MP or ceiling)
  • Neuro-interventional programs (biplane)
  • Hybrid operating rooms (zeego)
  • Hospitals in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and Latin America building an interventional service on a refurbished budget

How to Buy

How to Buy a Artis zee

  1. Send the procedures, the number of rooms and the room plans. Cardiac, vascular, neuro or hybrid work decides the configuration and the detector.
  2. Choose the configuration. Floor, ceiling, biplane, multipurpose or robotic, with the 20 x 20 cm or 30 x 40 cm detector.
  3. Get the configuration in writing. Stand, detector, tube, table, syngo licences, de-installation and installation scope, and the warranty term.
  4. Design the room with your contractor and physicist. Shielding, ceiling structure, control room, equipment room, power and gases are scoped before the system is bought.
  5. Schedule the de-installation and rigging. A crew and a crane for a ceiling or biplane system; the schedule is agreed with your facilities team.
  6. Agree the warranty and service term. Written; a service contract for the years after it is quoted alongside.
  7. Applications training and go-live. Physicist acceptance testing, protocol set-up and staff training on site.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a Siemens Artis zee cost?
A refurbished Artis zee costs $350,000 to $650,000 for a single-plane floor or ceiling system, $600,000 to $1,100,000 for a multipurpose system, $700,000 to $1,250,000 for a biplane and $750,000 to $1,300,000 for an Artis zeego in 2026, delivered, installed and warrantied. The current Siemens platforms, the Artis Q, ARTIS icono and Artis pheno, run an estimated $1,250,000 to $4,000,000 new through Siemens; Medical Outfitters quotes sourced refurbished systems.
What is the difference between a floor-mounted and a ceiling-mounted Artis zee?
The stand. A floor-mounted system stands on the floor and, per Siemens, works in rooms of only 25 square metres; a ceiling-mounted system hangs from rails, gives more access around the table and holds the projection angle during stand rotation and table tilt, but needs ceiling structure. Cardiology labs are often floor-mounted; vascular and neuro suites are often ceiling-mounted.
Do I need a biplane system?
For neuro-interventional work and paediatric cardiology, where two simultaneous projections cut contrast and time, yes. For coronary and peripheral vascular work a single-plane system does the job at roughly half the price.
What is the Artis zeego?
The Artis zee imaging chain, with the 30 x 40 cm detector, mounted on a six-axis industrial robot. It is used in hybrid operating rooms where the C-arm has to move out of the surgical field and back, and it prices at the top of the zee family.
What is the difference between the Artis zee and the Artis Q or icono?
Generation. The Artis Q and Q.zen replaced the zee with a new tube and detector chain, the Artis pheno is the robotic successor to the zeego, and the ARTIS icono is the current platform. New, those platforms run an estimated $1,250,000 to $4,000,000 through Siemens; a refurbished zee costs a fraction of that.
What room does an Artis zee need?
A shielded procedure room with the structure for the stand, a control room, an equipment room and the electrical supply, plus the anaesthesia, monitoring and gas services of an interventional suite. On a hospital suite the site work can cost as much as the system; scope the room with your contractor and physicist before the system is bought.
