Overview

LG 17HQ901G-B: Oxide TFT Digital X-ray Detector with 17×17 Square Format – 0.78 DQE

Authorized LG medical imaging equipment supplier. The LG 17HQ901G-B is a premium flat panel digital radiography detector combining Oxide TFT backplane technology with the largest format in the LG detector family – a 17×17-inch (43×43 cm) square active area. It answers two specific clinical needs: facilities that want the highest available DQE in a flat panel DR detector for reduced-dose imaging, and departments that image full adult chests, abdomens, and full-spine studies and need to eliminate stitching without repositioning the detector.

The Oxide TFT advantage is measurable: 0.78 DQE at 0 lp/mm vs 0.66 for standard a-Si TFT detectors – an 18% improvement in detective quantum efficiency that translates directly into diagnostic-quality images at lower patient dose, or sharper images at equivalent dose. The 17×17 square active area captures full bilateral lung fields and full thoracolumbar spine in a single exposure. At 3.6 kg with a hot-swap 7.5-hour battery, it handles high-volume chest imaging all day without workflow interruptions.

Key Features

Oxide TFT Image Quality, 17×17 Square Coverage, IP68 Durability & Hot-Swap Workflow

Oxide thin-film transistors (IGZO or similar oxide semiconductors) offer two fundamental advantages over conventional amorphous silicon TFTs in digital radiography detectors. Higher electron mobility means each pixel reads charge more efficiently, capturing more signal from each X-ray photon that converts in the CsI scintillator. Lower leakage current reduces electronic noise between exposures, improving the signal-to-noise ratio at low dose levels.

The result in clinical use: the 17HQ901G achieves 0.78 DQE at 0 lp/mm and 0.57 DQE at 1 lp/mm, compared to 0.66 and 0.43 for the a-Si 17HQ701G model. Image lag – the ghosting of previous exposures in subsequent images – is also significantly reduced, improving image quality in rapid sequential imaging workflows.

The 43×43 cm square active area captures full adult bilateral chest fields in PA and AP projections without cropping. For spine studies, the square format captures thoracic and upper lumbar vertebrae in a single exposure, reducing the number of images required for full-spine assessment. This eliminates stitching software requirements, stitching artifacts, and the additional positioning time required with smaller 14×17-inch detectors for the same exam types.

The 3072×3072 pixel matrix at 140 micrometer pitch provides consistent resolution across the full square area, ensuring detail is equally sharp at the panel corners as at the center – important for bilateral comparison of lung fields in chest radiography.

IP68 rating: Dust-tight and submersible to 1 meter depth for 30 minutes. Protects against fluid spills, cleaning solutions, contrast media, and the daily contaminants of a busy radiology department. The 17HQ901G can be wiped down with hospital-grade disinfectants without damaging the panel.
Load capacity: 400 kg uniform load for 60 seconds, 200 kg point load. Supports full patient weight on the detector without structural damage – critical for erect chest and AP exams where the patient rests on or against the detector.
Drop resistance: Tested to 1.5 meters per IEC 60601-1 – the standard drop height that accounts for accidental drops from standing height.
Shock monitoring: Built-in accelerometer logs drop and impact events, enabling service teams to diagnose damage from shock rather than from normal imaging use.

Hot-swap battery: The 36Wh Li-ion battery can be replaced in under 60 seconds without powering down the detector or losing stored images. The included 2-slot charger keeps a second battery ready at all times, enabling unlimited runtime across all-day shifts.
OLED status display: The embedded OLED panel shows battery level, wireless signal strength, remaining storage capacity, connection mode (wired/wireless/AP), and dynamic mode status. Technologists verify detector readiness at a glance without returning to the console.
Access Point mode: The 17HQ901G creates its own Wi-Fi access point for direct laptop or tablet connection – enabling bedside, portable, and point-of-care imaging without requiring a facility network connection.
On-board storage: 200 images stored locally when offline, automatically forwarded when network connection resumes. No images are lost during brief connectivity drops.

Clinical Applications

Where the LG 17HQ901G-B Oxide TFT Square-Format Detector Fits Your Department

Workflow

X-ray Generator Compatibility, PACS Integration & Network Configuration

The 17HQ901G uses standard DICOM communication for image transfer and worklist management. Auto exposure detection (AED) works with most radiographic generators without requiring a sync cable. For generators without AED output, a sync cable (15m, optional accessory) provides direct exposure triggering. Compatible with major generator brands including GE, Siemens, Philips, Canon Medical, Shimadzu, Fujifilm, and Carestream. Medical Outfitters performs generator compatibility verification during pre-installation planning for every deployment.

Wired mode: 1.5-second image transfer via magnetic detachable cable. Total cycle time 4.5 seconds (exposure to ready-for-next-exposure). Recommended for fixed room installations where cable management is feasible.
Wireless mode: 2-second image transfer via IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band. Total cycle time 5 seconds. Requires 5 GHz Wi-Fi access point within the imaging room for reliable performance. Medical Outfitters recommends a dedicated imaging VLAN to prevent packet loss during large DICOM transfers.
AP mode: Direct detector-to-device connection without facility network infrastructure. Useful for portable carts, mobile van applications, or facilities with limited IT network access in imaging suites.

Frequently Asked Questions

LG 17HQ901G-B – Oxide TFT Square Format Digital Detector Questions

Oxide TFTs have higher electron mobility and lower leakage current than amorphous silicon TFTs. This produces a DQE of 0.78 at 0 lp/mm for the 17HQ901G vs 0.66 for the a-Si 17HQ701G – an 18% improvement in dose efficiency that allows imaging at lower mAs or produces sharper images at equivalent dose. Image lag is also significantly reduced, benefiting rapid sequential imaging workflows.

The extra 3 inches of width in the 17×17 format (43×43 cm vs 35×43 cm for 14×17) captures the full bilateral chest in PA projection without cropping lateral chest walls in large patients. For spine studies, the square format captures more superior vertebrae in a single exposure, reducing the number of images and repositioning events required for full-spine surveys. The result is reduced exam time and elimination of stitching software requirements.

Yes – it uses standard DICOM communication and auto exposure detection compatible with GE, Siemens, Philips, Canon, Shimadzu, and most other major generators. Medical Outfitters verifies compatibility during pre-installation planning. A sync cable is available for generators requiring direct exposure triggering.
