A refurbished Philips Ingenia costs $600,000 to $975,000 at 1.5T and $1,100,000 to $1,900,000 at 3.0T in 2026, delivered, installed and warrantied. The Ingenia was the first fully digital MRI, with the analogue-to-digital conversion inside each coil, and it is now common on the used market because Philips has moved the line on to the Evolution, Ambition and Elition generations. New systems run $1,200,000 to $2,000,000 at 1.5T and $2,100,000 to $3,700,000 at 3T in our MRI cost guide.
This guide covers what the Ingenia is, the 1.5T and 3.0T configurations and the later names, our 2026 ranges, what moves an Ingenia quote, what to check on a used one, who it suits against the Siemens Aera and the GE Optima MR450w, and how to buy one. Specifications are Philips’ published figures, checked 28 September 2026.
What Is the Philips Ingenia?
The Philips Ingenia is a family of 70 cm bore MRI scanners introduced in 2010 and 2011 at 1.5T and 3.0T. Its defining feature is dStream: the analogue-to-digital converter sits inside the coil, so the MR signal travels to the reconstructor as a digital stream over fibre rather than as an analogue signal over cable. Philips’ FlexCoverage coils and a fully digital signal chain are what the name Ingenia stands for.
The 1.5T system, per Philips, has a 3,060 kg magnet with HeliumSave zero boil-off technology, gradients of up to 45 mT/m at 200 T/m/s per axis, 18 kW of RF output, a 250 kg (550 lb) table and a 95 cm tunnel diameter at both ends of the 70 cm bore. The 3.0T system adds the Omega HP gradient package at 45 mT/m and 200 T/m/s and the Xtend magnet with a 55 cm field of view for large patients.
The names that followed matter on the used market. Ingenia Evolution is the SmartPath upgrade of an existing 1.5T or 3.0T to later software and hardware; Philips lists the original Ingenia 1.5T as no longer available new, with SmartPath to Ingenia 1.5T Evolution as the route forward. Ingenia Ambition is the 1.5T built on the sealed BlueSeal magnet with a fraction of the helium; Ingenia Elition is the current premium 3.0T; and Ingenia Prodiva was a lower-cost 1.5T. All share the dStream coil platform.

What Moves the Price of a Ingenia
Two quotes for the same Ingenia can differ by a whole configuration. These are the lines that move the price, roughly in order of impact.
- Field strength The 3.0T costs roughly twice the 1.5T
- Software release and Evolution status An upgraded system carries current sequences and coil support and a higher price
- dStream coil set Each digital coil has electronics inside it, so the coil list is a larger share of the price than on an analogue system
- Helium and cold head history HeliumSave magnets rarely need helium; a falling level points at the cold head
- Siting Reusing the RF room, chiller and power keeps the installed price down; a 3T room is a project
- Service arrangements Confirm who will service a Philips system in your region before you buy; it moves the running cost
What to Check Before You Buy a Used Ingenia
A used Ingenia is bought on its records. These are the checks our engineers run and the questions to put to any seller before you sign.
- dStream coils: Every coil contains its own digitiser. Test each one and get the coil list in writing, because a failed digital coil costs more to replace than an analogue coil.
- Software release: Confirm the Philips release and whether the system has had the SmartPath Evolution upgrade; the release decides which coils and sequences the system supports.
- Helium level and cold head: HeliumSave is a zero boil-off design. Ask for the helium log and the cold head service history.
- Gradient package: Confirm the gradient specification on the unit; on the 3.0T, confirm Omega HP.
- Table and FlexTrak: Check table travel and weight rating and whether the optional FlexTrak transport table is included.
- Service and parts: The independent service market for Philips is thinner than for GE and Siemens in some regions. Confirm the service arrangement and parts route before you sign.
- Room and power: A 70 cm system with a 3,060 kg 1.5T magnet sites like a standard 1.5T; the 3.0T needs a 3T room survey.
Who the Ingenia Suits, and the Alternatives
The Ingenia suits sites that value digital coil signal quality and want a 70 cm bore.
- Imaging centres already running Philips, where coils, protocols and training carry over
- Hospitals that want a 3T with a wide field of view for body imaging
- Sites that plan to keep the magnet and upgrade software through SmartPath over its life
- Buyers comparing the Siemens Aera and GE Optima MR450w on price
Alternatives to the Ingenia
| Model | Why you would choose it instead |
|---|---|
| Siemens MAGNETOM Aera | The Siemens 70 cm 1.5T with the largest refurbished supply and Dot workflow |
| GE Optima MR450w | GE’s 70 cm 1.5T for sites in the GE ecosystem |
| Siemens MAGNETOM Skyra | The Siemens 70 cm 3T that competes with the Ingenia 3.0T |
| GE Discovery MR750w | GE’s 70 cm 3T with the 50 cm field of view |
How to Buy a Ingenia
- Send the room, the power supply and the case mix. Room dimensions, the existing RF shielding and chiller, the electrical supply and the exams you run decide the configuration before the model does.
- Choose the configuration. Field strength, channel count, gradients, coil list and software level, matched to the case mix rather than to the largest set.
- Get the configuration in writing. Every coil by name, the software release, the licensed applications, the helium and cold head history and the warranty term, so quotes compare line by line.
- Survey the site. RF room, fringe field, chiller capacity, power and rigging route, before the magnet is bought.
- Schedule the de-installation and rigging. Ramp-down, transport and installation are in our price; the schedule is agreed with your facilities team.
- Agree the warranty and service term. The MO Select warranty is written; a service contract for the years after it is quoted alongside.
- Applications training and go-live. Protocol set-up and technologist training on site.
We quote within one business day and deliver, install, train and support across the United States, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean through an ISO 13485:2016 certified quality system. Request a Ingenia quote » Browse current stock on our MRI machines for sale page.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How much does a Philips Ingenia cost?
- A refurbished Ingenia 1.5T costs $600,000 to $975,000 and a refurbished Ingenia 3.0T $1,100,000 to $1,900,000 in 2026 delivered, installed and warrantied. New Philips systems run $1,200,000 to $2,000,000 at 1.5T and $2,100,000 to $3,700,000 at 3T through Philips; Medical Outfitters does not sell Philips new and quotes sourced refurbished units.
- Is the Philips Ingenia discontinued?
- Philips lists the original Ingenia 1.5T as no longer available new and points existing owners to the SmartPath to Ingenia 1.5T Evolution upgrade. The line continues as the Ingenia Evolution, Ambition and Elition generations, and the original systems are widely available refurbished.
- What is dStream?
- Philips’ fully digital signal chain. The analogue-to-digital converter sits inside each coil, and the signal travels to the reconstructor as a digital stream, which raises the signal-to-noise ratio and removes analogue cabling from the bore. It also means each coil carries its own electronics, which is why the coil list matters on a used system.
- What is the difference between the Ingenia and the Achieva?
- The Achieva is Philips’ previous generation with an analogue coil chain; the Ingenia replaced it with dStream and a 70 cm bore. Achieva systems cost less on the used market and appear in the same 1.5T band as older Siemens and GE systems.
- Ingenia 1.5T or 3.0T?
- The 1.5T covers routine outpatient imaging at roughly half the price and with easier siting. The 3.0T adds signal for neuro, musculoskeletal and prostate work and the Xtend 55 cm field of view for large patients. The case mix decides.
- What are the Ingenia Ambition and Elition?
- Ambition is the 1.5T built on Philips’ sealed BlueSeal magnet, which holds a fraction of the helium of a conventional magnet. Elition is the current premium 3.0T. Both are sold new; few have reached the refurbished market yet.
- Does Medical Outfitters sell the Philips Ingenia?
- Not new: Medical Outfitters is not a Philips dealer. We source refurbished Ingenia systems on request, install and service them, and have installed and de-installed Philips 1.5T and 3T systems for clients. Our MO Select refurbished line is GE and Siemens, and our new MRI systems are Fujifilm and Esaote, sold as an authorized dealer.
