GE Discovery MR750w 3T MRI: Price, Configurations and Buying Guide (2026)

GE Discovery MR750w: angled view, with the Medical Outfitters watermark

Published 28 September 2026. Product facts were checked against GE HealthCare documentation on 28 September 2026. Written by the Medical Outfitters sales and field engineering team.

A refurbished GE Discovery MR750w costs $1,100,000 to $1,750,000 in 2026, delivered, installed and warrantied. It is GE’s 70 cm 3T: a 50 x 50 x 50 cm field of view, MultiDrive RF transmit to even out the 3T field, optical RF and, on GEM systems, the array coils built into the table. It competes with the Siemens Skyra and prices in the 3T band of our MRI cost guide; new 3T systems run $2,100,000 to $3,700,000.

This guide covers what the MR750w is, the GEM and standard configurations, our 2026 range, what moves an MR750w quote, what to check before you buy, what 3T siting adds, who it suits against the Siemens Skyra and the Optima MR450w, and how to buy one through MO Select. Specifications are GE’s published figures, checked 28 September 2026.

Overview

What Is the GE Discovery MR750w?

The GE Discovery MR750w is a 3 Tesla wide bore MRI scanner introduced in 2011 as the 70 cm counterpart to the Discovery MR750 and the 3T sibling of the Optima MR450w. It combines a 3.0T magnet with a 70 cm bore and a 50 x 50 x 50 cm field of view, which is the combination most sites are looking for when they outgrow a 1.5T and do not want to give up bore size.

Two technologies define it. MultiDrive RF transmit drives the body coil with independent channels to even out the RF field, which is the main image-quality problem 3T introduces in body imaging, and optical RF carries the receive signal out of the magnet room digitally. Gradients are 44 mT/m at 200 T/m/s. GEM systems add the Geometry Embracing Method coil suite, with the posterior array in the table and conformable anterior arrays.

GE followed the MR750w with the Signa Premier and Signa Architect, so the MR750w is now a refurbished purchase, and one with a large installed base in hospitals and research centres behind it.

Price Drivers

What Moves the Price of a Discovery MR750w

Two quotes for the same Discovery MR750w can differ by a whole configuration. These are the lines that move the price, roughly in order of impact.

  • GEM or standard GEM systems carry the premium
  • Software release and applications Later DV releases and advanced packages raise the price
  • Coil set 3T coils are expensive; a complete set is a six-figure line
  • Gradient coil history The gradient coil is the high-cost part on any 3T; a documented history is worth paying for
  • Siting A 3T room needs fringe-field, shielding and vibration work; reusing a 3T room keeps the installed price down
  • Warranty and service term Our range includes the MO Select warranty; a 3T service contract is the largest running cost after staff
Buying Checklist

What to Check Before You Buy a Used Discovery MR750w

A used Discovery MR750w is bought on its records. These are the checks our engineers run and the questions to put to any seller before you sign.

  • GEM or standard: Confirm from the table and the coil list. A GEM table with missing anterior arrays is not a GEM system in practice.
  • Software release and licences: Get the DV release and the licensed applications in writing.
  • Gradient coil: Ask for the gradient coil history and any fault record; it is the most expensive component to replace on a 3T.
  • Coil complement: List and test every 3T coil, including the posterior array in a GEM table.
  • Helium level and cold head: Ask for the helium log and the cold head service history.
  • 3T siting: The 5 gauss line, RF shielding at 128 MHz, floor loading and vibration differ from 1.5T. Have the room surveyed before the magnet is bought.
  • Chiller and power: 3T systems draw more power and reject more heat; confirm the chiller capacity and the electrical supply match the specification.
Fit

Who the Discovery MR750w Suits, and the Alternatives

The MR750w suits programs that want 3T detail without giving up bore size, inside the GE ecosystem.

  • Neuro, orthopaedic and body imaging programs at hospitals and large centres
  • GE sites consolidating on one coil, service and applications ecosystem
  • Research and academic centres running advanced sequences
  • Sites replacing an early 3T that want a 70 cm bore

How to Buy

How to Buy a Discovery MR750w

  1. Send the room, the power supply and the case mix. Room dimensions, the existing RF shielding and chiller, the electrical supply and the exams you run decide the configuration before the model does.
  2. Choose the configuration. Field strength, channel count, gradients, coil list and software level, matched to the case mix rather than to the largest set.
  3. Get the configuration in writing. Every coil by name, the software release, the licensed applications, the helium and cold head history and the warranty term, so quotes compare line by line.
  4. Survey the site. RF room, fringe field, chiller capacity, power and rigging route, before the magnet is bought.
  5. Schedule the de-installation and rigging. Ramp-down, transport and installation are in our price; the schedule is agreed with your facilities team.
  6. Agree the warranty and service term. The MO Select warranty is written; a service contract for the years after it is quoted alongside.
  7. Applications training and go-live. Protocol set-up and technologist training on site.

We quote within one business day and deliver, install, train and support across the United States, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean through an ISO 13485:2016 certified quality system. Request a Discovery MR750w quote » Current availability is on the MO Select Discovery MR750w product page.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a GE Discovery MR750w cost?
A refurbished Discovery MR750w costs $1,100,000 to $1,750,000 in 2026 delivered, installed and warrantied: $1,100,000 to $1,450,000 for a standard system on earlier software and $1,300,000 to $1,750,000 for a GEM system with an expanded coil set, later software and advanced applications. New 3T systems run $2,100,000 to $3,700,000.
Is the MR750w a wide bore 3T?
Yes. It combines a 3.0T magnet with a 70 cm bore and a 50 x 50 x 50 cm field of view, which is the combination most sites want when they move up from a 1.5T.
What is the difference between the MR750w and the MR450w?
Field strength: the MR750w is 3T and the MR450w is 1.5T, on the same 70 cm wide-bore design with the same GEM coil option. The MR750w costs roughly twice as much, needs 3T siting and gives more signal for neuro and musculoskeletal work.
What is the difference between the MR750w and the Siemens Skyra?
Both are 70 cm 3T systems of the same generation. The MR750w has MultiDrive RF transmit, a 50 cm field of view and the GEM coil suite; the Skyra has Tim 4G coils, XQ gradients and the Dot workflow. Most buyers choose by the ecosystem they already run.
What does GEM mean?
Geometry Embracing Method: GE’s coil suite with a posterior array built into the table and flexible anterior arrays that conform to the patient, so exams run with fewer coil changes and large patients are covered edge to edge.
What room does an MR750w need?
A 3T room engineered for a larger fringe field, RF shielding at 128 MHz, higher floor loading and vibration control. Sites replacing a 3T usually reuse the room after a survey; a first 3T is a construction project, and our MRI cost guide covers what it adds.
