Overview

Fujifilm FDR Xair: Handheld Portable X-Ray Unit

Authorized Fujifilm portable X-ray equipment supplier. Clear images are critical for appropriate diagnosis and patient monitoring, but some patients cannot come into an imaging department for help. The Fujifilm FDR Xair is ideal for mobile applications. It weighs just 3.5 kilograms, so it is easy to carry, and it can be mounted on a support stand quickly and easily for portable exams. When the imaging is done, the hand switch attaches to the main unit to make carrying it easier.

The FDR Xair is compact enough to fit in your hand, yet powerful enough to capture the detail a diagnostic team needs. Optimized buttons on both sides let staff operate the unit with one finger, a built-in lithium polymer battery captures up to 100 images per charge where outlets are not available, durable LED lamps light dark rooms, and a flat, few edge design makes cleaning quick and easy. Paired with a Fujifilm detector and console, it adds ISS, Virtual Grid, Dynamic Visualization II, and a noise reduction circuit for sharp images at a low dose.

Key Features

Handheld Portability, Battery Power, and Low Dose Imaging

The FDR Xair is built for patients who cannot get imaging in a traditional radiology department. Handheld portability, battery power, and advanced image processing bring high quality X-ray to the point of care. Full technical detail is in the expandable sections below.

Light and Compact: at approximately 3.5 kilograms including the battery, the FDR Xair is one of the lightest X-ray devices available and easy for staff to carry to the patient
Designed for Unconventional Settings: built for homes, clinics, long-term care, and disaster sites where a fixed radiology department is not available, and small enough for very tight spaces
Mount or Carry: lightweight enough to mount on a support stand for exams, with an included shoulder strap, and the hand switch attaches to the main unit so it is not left behind
Easy Maintenance Design: a flat surface with few edges and depressions makes the unit easy to wipe down, and it opens easily for maintenance and routine cleaning
Durable LED Light Source: long lasting LED lamps in the illumination lamp and display run longer without maintenance and stay bright in low light conditions

Battery Power, No Outlet Needed: a built-in lithium polymer battery holds a charge for long periods and powers up to 100 images on a full charge, so staff can work where electricity is unavailable or unstable
One Finger Operation: optimized buttons on both sides let staff control settings and functions with one finger while holding the unit securely in both hands
Grouped Button Layout: a four button layout groups the necessary functions together, so staff do not have to reach and poke to get what they need for a successful exam
Noise Reduction: a Fujifilm noise reduction circuit reduces noise and artifacts for clearer images that clinicians can read with confidence
Advanced Image Processing: machine learning and Fujifilm technology improve contrast and clarity, and built-in software corrects the effects of scatter radiation for sharp images at a low dose

Sometimes clinicians must meet patients where they are, even outside the hospital. The FDR Xair makes that practical by combining a handheld, battery powered source with Fujifilm image processing, so a single staff member can carry the unit, mount it on a stand or hold it, and capture a sharp low dose image without an outlet or a dedicated radiology room. Advanced processing helps ensure the scan is complete and correct on the first exposure, which saves staff time and reduces patient stress.

Clinical Applications

Deployed wherever imaging needs to reach the patient, from home healthcare and long-term care to bedside, rural, and disaster response settings.

Workflow

From the Carry Case to a Sharp Image at the Bedside

A portable imaging workflow built to reach the patient. Carry, position, capture on battery power, and process a sharp low dose image without a fixed radiology room. Expanded workflow details are in the expandable sections below.

A single staff member carries the 3.5 kilogram FDR Xair to the patient using the included shoulder strap. The unit can be held in both hands or mounted quickly on the support stand, and because it runs on a built-in battery, no outlet or dedicated room is required.

The durable LED illumination lamp lights dark rooms and helps the operator align the field, and the included tape measure sets the correct source to image distance. Optimized buttons on both sides allow one finger control while the operator keeps the unit steady.

The operator captures the exposure on battery power, with up to 100 images available on a full charge. The grouped four button layout keeps the necessary functions together, which simplifies operation in homes, at the bedside, and in the field.

Paired with a Fujifilm detector and Console Advance, the system applies ISS, Virtual Grid scatter correction, Dynamic Visualization II, and a noise reduction circuit to produce a sharp, low dose image, often complete on the first exposure. Images route to PACS through standard connectivity for review.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common purchase and clinical questions about the Fujifilm FDR Xair portable X-ray unit. Tap any question to expand.

The Fujifilm FDR Xair is a handheld, battery powered portable X-ray unit that weighs approximately 3.5 kilograms including the battery. It is designed to bring imaging to patients who cannot come to a radiology department, such as in homes, clinics, long-term care, and field settings. It can be carried by hand or mounted on a support stand, and a hand switch attaches to the main unit for easy carrying.

The FDR Xair weighs about 3.5 kilograms including the battery, which makes it one of the lightest X-ray devices available, and its external dimensions are 301 by 257 by 144 millimeters. It is small enough to carry with the included shoulder strap, easy to mount on a support stand for exams, and the hand switch stows neatly into the body so it is not left behind.

Yes. The FDR Xair has a built-in lithium polymer battery that holds a charge for long periods without adding weight, and it can power up to 100 images on a full charge. This lets staff work with many patients in places where electricity is unavailable or unstable, and an AC adapter is included for charging and outlet use when available.

The FDR Xair is the portable X-ray source and is paired with a Fujifilm DR detector, such as the FDR D-EVO II, and Console Advance software. The detector uses ISS irradiated side sampling, which places the optical reading closer to the X-ray irradiated side for less signal loss and light scattering, so images stay clear even at lower radiation doses.

Paired with a Fujifilm detector and console, the system uses Virtual Grid to deliver high contrast images without a physical grid by correcting scatter radiation, Dynamic Visualization II to enhance contrast and clarity with advanced image recognition, and a Fujifilm noise reduction circuit that improves sensitivity in high absorption regions. Together these produce sharp images at a low radiation dose, often complete on the first exposure.

The FDR Xair is designed for unconventional settings, including patient homes, clinics, long-term care and nursing facilities, bedside and ward imaging, rural and remote sites, and disaster response. It is small enough for very tight spaces and does not require an external power source, which expands where high quality imaging can be performed.

Yes. The Fujifilm FDR Xair portable X-ray unit is FDA cleared. Medical Outfitters Inc. is ISO 13485:2016 certified as the supplying distributor, so every unit ships through an audited quality management system. It is manufactured by FUJIFILM Corporation.
