Published 29 September 2026. Written by the Medical Outfitters field service team. Response commitments are the ones written into our service contracts; everything else on this page describes how the work is done.

Medical Outfitters services ultrasound machines and tests their probes: emergency repair with same-day or next-day response depending on urgency and location, preventive maintenance to OEM specification, transducer testing with repair arranged through our service team, replacement probes and parts, on systems we sold and systems bought elsewhere. We sell the Fujifilm ARIETTA, Lisendo and Sonosite lines new as an authorized dealer. We are based in Miami, Florida and cover Florida, the United States, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Engineers are available 24/7 on (305) 885-4045.

This page explains what an ultrasound service visit involves, how fast we respond, how probes are tested and what happens when one fails, how a service contract is built and priced, and where we work. The purchase side is in the ultrasound machine cost and buying guide, and the technical side of transducers is in our guide to ultrasound probe types, faults and repair.

What We Service

Which Ultrasound Systems Do You Service?

Ultrasound service is mostly about probes, then consoles. Transducers are the most failure-prone and expensive part of an ultrasound system, and a single specialist probe can represent a substantial share of what the whole system is worth. Medical Outfitters provides ultrasound service and parts, and we test transducers and arrange probe repair through our service team to keep systems running and control cost. What we work on:

System classExamplesWhat the service work centres on
Cart-based systemsFujifilm ARIETTA 850, 750, 650, 65 and 50 and Lisendo 880, sold new by us; other manufacturers’ consoles on requestProbe ports and connectors, power supplies, monitors, control panels and software
Portable and point-of-care systemsFujifilm Sonosite ZX, Edge II and M-Turbo, sold new by us; other portable systems on requestBatteries and docks, screens, probe connectors and the wear that comes with moving between rooms
TransducersLinear, curved, phased array, endocavity, transesophageal and 3D/4D probes for the systems aboveTesting for element dropout, lens, cable and connector damage; repair arranged; replacement quoted
Veterinary and specialty usePortable and cart systems in veterinary, orthopedic, pain management and women’s health practicesSame consoles and probes, serviced on the same contracts

For a system from another manufacturer, tell us the model: support depends on the platform and on parts availability. Our guide to where to buy refurbished ultrasound machines covers the used market if the question is replacement rather than repair.

Probes

How Do You Test, Repair and Replace Ultrasound Probes?

Probes are handled hundreds of times a week, dropped, wound around carts and plugged in and out, and they carry much of the system’s value. A probe fault shows up as dropout bands on the image, a shadow that moves with the probe rather than the anatomy, noise, a crackle when the cable is flexed, or a probe that is no longer recognised at the port. Before anyone spends money the probe is tested:

  • Visual inspection Lens delamination, cuts and swelling, cable jacket cracks and kinks, strain relief splits, bent or corroded connector pins
  • Air scan An air scan at high gain reveals element dropout quickly: dead elements show as dark vertical bands across the near field
  • Phantom and clinical check Sensitivity, uniformity and penetration against a known phantom, and the probe on a second port or a second system to rule out the console
  • Electrical safety Leakage testing, which matters most on endocavity and transesophageal probes that go through disinfection cycles

What happens next depends on the fault. A split strain relief, a damaged cable or bent connector pins are economic repairs because the acoustic assembly is intact; dropout on one or two elements is usually worth repairing after testing; a cracked lens with an intact array is repairable; extensive element loss, a crushed array or fluid ingress in a TEE probe are usually replacements. We arrange the repair through our service team, tell you the repair-or-replace economics before you commit, and quote a new or refurbished replacement probe for the Fujifilm and Sonosite lines we carry.

A saved image showing the dropout, alongside photographs of the lens, strain relief and connector, gives the repair provider what they need to quote accurately and gives you evidence if a probe is returned no-fault-found. The full testing routine and the failure modes by probe type are in our ultrasound probe guide.

Emergency Repair

How Fast Can an Ultrasound Engineer Reach Us?

Every minute a system is down is lost capacity, so the first response is remote and immediate. Our engineers are available 24/7 without automated phone trees: when you call (305) 885-4045 you speak to a trained professional who can start troubleshooting on the call.

  • Emergency response Same-day or next-day service depending on urgency and location, with on-site diagnostics and troubleshooting to pinpoint the fault quickly
  • Priority for contract clients Remote response within 30 minutes and on-site service within 2 hours for local facilities
  • Component and board-level repair Restoring function without the expense of a full assembly replacement where the fault allows it
  • Puerto Rico and the Caribbean Travel days and flights are part of the response time, so we plan them into the contract rather than discovering them when a system is already down
  • Documentation Every repair is recorded with service logs and a post-repair summary, so your records are ready for an accreditation or regulatory review

Most ultrasound calls do not need an engineer in the room to start. A console that will not boot, a probe that is not recognised, a monitor fault or a lost DICOM connection can often be diagnosed remotely or by phone, and a system with a spare probe of the same type can keep scanning while the failed one is tested. When the console itself is down, the common faults are power supplies, front-end boards, probe port connectors, control panels and monitors, and software corruption after an unplanned shutdown.

What fails most often on an ultrasound system

Probes, not consoles. After probes: cables and connectors, control panels and trackballs, monitors, power supplies and batteries on portable systems, and the probe port assemblies that take the wear of thousands of connections.

Preventive Maintenance

What Does Ultrasound Preventive Maintenance Involve?

Ultrasound maintenance is lighter than MRI or CT, but it is the visit that catches probe damage while it is still a cable repair rather than an array replacement. Visits run at manufacturer-recommended intervals, at night or during off hours where possible, with documentation for your accreditation body. A preventive maintenance visit on an ultrasound system covers:

  • Every transducer Visual inspection, air scan for element dropout, and a phantom check on the probes that carry the clinical load
  • Cables, connectors and ports Strain reliefs, cable jackets, connector pins and the probe port assemblies on the console
  • Console Cleaning of filters and fans, power supply and battery condition, control panel and trackball function, monitor brightness and calibration
  • Software and connectivity Error logs, backups, presets and protocols, software updates, DICOM, worklist and PACS connections
  • Electrical safety Leakage and ground testing to the manufacturer’s procedure, with the results filed
  • Documentation The probe inventory with serial numbers, the test results per probe, and the records your accreditation body asks for

All maintenance is performed to the manufacturer’s specifications with OEM parts and procedures. Practice standards for ultrasound equipment quality assurance are published by the AIUM; our records are written to sit alongside them.

Service Plans

Ultrasound Service Contracts: What They Cover and What They Cost

There is no one-size-fits-all plan at Medical Outfitters. We listen first, then build the plan around the system, its age, how hard it works and what your budget can absorb. Most plans still fall into one of four shapes, and it helps to know the vocabulary before you compare quotes.

Plan shapeWhat it coversWho it suits
Time and materialsNo contract. Each call is quoted and billed as parts, labour and travelLow-utilisation systems, or a facility that prefers to pay per event
Preventive maintenance agreementScheduled visits at manufacturer-recommended intervals, with the documentation you need for regulatory standards; repairs quoted separatelySites with an in-house biomedical team that handles first response
Shared servicePreventive maintenance plus a defined share of repair labour and parts, with your biomeds handling the routine workHospitals and groups with clinical engineering staff
Full servicePreventive maintenance, repair labour, travel and parts, with the response commitments written inImaging centers and practices that need a fixed annual number and one call to make

Four things are separate line items and it is worth reading them separately, because a contract can look complete and still leave the expensive parts out:

  • Parts Which are included, and whether the platform is still supported by the manufacturer
  • Labour On site and remote
  • Travel Frequently billed separately, and the line that matters most for a remote or island site
  • Response time A stated commitment, not an intention
  • Probes Whether probe repair and replacement are covered, which probes, and up to what value; this is the clause that decides whether an ultrasound contract is complete
  • Fleet agreements A department’s cart and portable systems under one agreement, with one probe inventory and one response commitment

A service contract is priced per year as a percentage of the system value, and the percentage moves with what it covers, the platform, its age, the number of probes and systems under the agreement, the response time you need and where the site is. Tell us the systems and the probe inventory, and we will quote the plan shapes side by side, with and without probe coverage.

Parts

Ultrasound Parts: Stock, OEM Procedures and Platform Support

Downtime is decided by parts as often as by engineers. Medical Outfitters holds more than 20,000 parts in stock for MRI, CT, X-ray and more, ready to ship same day or next day from Miami, and every repair is performed with OEM parts and procedures so your manufacturer warranty stays valid and the documentation proves the work was done to specification.

For a system the parts that decide a repair are the probes themselves, probe port assemblies, power supplies and batteries, front-end boards, control panels, trackballs and monitors. Ask about platform support before you sign a contract, not after a failure: a widely installed, still-supported platform has a deep parts pool, and a rare or end-of-support model can be newer and still harder to keep running.

Coverage

Where Do You Service Ultrasound Systems?

Medical Outfitters is based at 8062 NW 66th St in Miami, Florida, and services ultrasound systems with its own field service engineers across Florida, the United States, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Where you are decides how a contract is written, so here is how the coverage actually works.

AreaHow we cover it
Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm BeachOur own engineers and rigging crews from the Miami warehouse: Miami, Hialeah, Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Pembroke Pines, Weston, Boca Raton, Delray Beach, West Palm Beach, Jupiter and the towns between
Naples and Fort MyersA two to three hour drive across Alligator Alley; service trips are scheduled accordingly and the same engineers attend
The rest of FloridaMaintenance and repair on service contracts, including Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, Gainesville and St. Augustine
United StatesNationwide from Miami, with same-day or next-day parts shipping
Puerto RicoFull-island coverage through our Puerto Rico legal entity, with travel planned into the contract
CaribbeanEvery island from the Bahamas to Trinidad, with containerized shipping for systems and overnight shipping for critical parts

The Florida imaging equipment page lists the projects behind that coverage, and our guide to MRI installation in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean explains what changes on an island site: customs, freight routing, crane access and the travel days that belong in the response time.

Repair or Replace

Is It Worth Repairing an Older Ultrasound System?

On an ultrasound system the repair-or-replace question is usually a probe question. A probe repair at a specialist depot is normally a fraction of the cost of a new probe from the manufacturer, so a console with a sound front end and a tired probe set is worth keeping. A console that is out of software support, with probe types that are no longer made, is a different case, and a refurbished replacement usually costs 40 to 60 per cent less than new.

The ultrasound machine cost guide sets out what new and refurbished systems cost by class, our article on refurbished ultrasound machines covers what to check on a used console, and current stock is on the ultrasound machines for sale page. We also buy used ultrasound systems and probes.

Request Service

Request Ultrasound Service or a Contract Quote

Two ways to reach the service team. If the system is down, call (305) 885-4045: engineers are on call 24/7. For a preventive maintenance schedule, a contract quote or a fault that is not urgent, the form below reaches the same coordinators and a specialist replies within one business day.

What to have ready shortens the first call:

  • The manufacturer and model of the console, the software version and the serial number
  • For a probe: the probe model and serial number, a saved image showing the fault, and photographs of the lens, strain relief and connector
  • The error messages and when they started, and whether the fault follows the probe or stays with the port
  • Whether the system is under a manufacturer warranty or another contract
  • The site address and access hours; for a contract quote, the probe inventory and the response time you need

FAQ

Ultrasound Service and Probe Repair: Common Questions

Do you repair ultrasound probes?
We test transducers and arrange probe repair through our service team. The probe is inspected and air-scanned first, so you know whether the fault is a cable, a connector, a lens or the array before any money is spent, and we tell you the repair-or-replace economics. Replacement probes are quoted new or refurbished for the Fujifilm and Sonosite lines we carry.
Do you service ultrasound machines you did not sell?
Yes. Medical Outfitters provides ultrasound service and parts for systems we sold and systems bought elsewhere. What matters is whether the platform is one we support and whether parts and probes are still available for it.
How quickly can an ultrasound engineer reach us?
Emergency response is same-day or next-day depending on urgency and location. Service contract clients get remote response within 30 minutes and on-site service within 2 hours for local facilities. Many ultrasound faults are diagnosed by phone or remotely first. Engineers are on call 24/7 on (305) 885-4045.
How do I know whether a probe is faulty or the console is?
Move the probe to a second port or a second system of the same type. If the fault follows the probe, it is the probe; if it stays with the port, it is the console. An air scan at high gain shows element dropout as dark vertical bands, and a crackle when the cable is flexed points to the cable or strain relief.
How much does an ultrasound service contract cost?
It is priced per year as a percentage of the system value, and the percentage moves with what it covers, the platform, its age, the number of probes and systems under the agreement, the response time you need and where the site is. Whether probe repair and replacement are covered, and up to what value, is the clause that decides whether the contract is complete.
What does ultrasound preventive maintenance include?
Inspection and air-scan testing of every transducer, cable and connector checks, console cleaning and power supply and battery checks, monitor calibration, software updates and DICOM connectivity, electrical safety testing, and a probe inventory with the test results filed for your accreditation body.
Which parts of Florida do you cover for ultrasound service?
Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties are served by our own engineers from the Miami warehouse. Naples and Fort Myers are scheduled trips. The rest of Florida, including Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, Gainesville and St. Augustine, is covered on service contracts, and we work nationwide, in Puerto Rico and across the Caribbean.
