Published 2 November 2026. The dollar figures on this page are comparison estimates derived from public list-price reporting for 2025 and 2026 and are labeled as estimates; they are not Medical Outfitters prices. Medical Outfitters quotes its own cone beam CT systems individually for every site, delivered, installed and warrantied, and publishes no band for cone beam CT. Specifications are the manufacturers’ published figures and the Medical Outfitters product pages. Written by the Medical Outfitters sales and field engineering team.
A cone beam CT machine costs an estimated $30,000 to $100,000 new for a small or medium field-of-view dental CBCT, $100,000 to $180,000 new for a large field-of-view dental and ENT system, and $300,000 to $500,000 new for an extremity or weight-bearing CBCT; refurbished units are estimated at $20,000 to $50,000, $40,000 to $90,000 and $150,000 to $300,000 for the same three classes. Those are comparison estimates from public list-price reporting for 2025 and 2026, labeled as estimates wherever they appear; they are not Medical Outfitters prices. Medical Outfitters sells the Planmeca Viso G7 dental and ENT CBCT, the Planmed Verity extremity CBCT and the Planmed XFI full-body weight-bearing CBCT new as an authorized Planmeca and Planmed dealer, and the Koning Vera breast CT new as an authorized Koning breast imaging supplier; each is quoted on request, delivered, installed and warrantied, and no Medical Outfitters band is published for cone beam CT.
Cone beam CT, or CBCT, captures a cylinder of anatomy in one rotation of a cone-shaped beam and a flat-panel detector, at a dose and a price a dental, ENT or orthopedic practice can justify in its own office. The same idea runs from a 3 by 3 cm endodontic scan to a full-body weight-bearing system, which is why the price runs from the low tens of thousands to half a million dollars, and why the field of view is the first question on any quote. This guide covers the cost by class, by model and by field of view, what moves the price, what a quote includes, dental, ENT, extremity and breast CT, the room, running cost, new versus refurbished, cone beam against medical CT, and how to choose.

How Much Does a Cone Beam CT Machine Cost?
A cone beam CT machine price is set by the field of view first and the specialty second. The new and refurbished figures below are estimates derived from public list-price reporting for 2025 and 2026, rounded to the nearest $5,000 ($500 under $50,000) and printed for comparison only; they are equipment-level figures, before the room and the installation the quote section covers. The Medical Outfitters column is what we sell in each class, quoted on request.
| Cone beam CT class | New, estimated (comparison only) | Refurbished, estimated (comparison only) | Medical Outfitters | Typical buyer |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dental small and medium field of view (up to about 10 x 10 cm) | $30,000 to $100,000 | $20,000 to $50,000 | Planmeca Viso G7 (its tooth, teeth and jaw programs), sold new, quoted on request; other dental platforms pre-owned only, on request | General dentistry, endodontics, implant and periodontal practices: a single arch to both arches, usually with 2D panoramic imaging |
| Dental and ENT large field of view (above 10 x 10 cm to 30 x 30 cm) | $100,000 to $180,000 | $40,000 to $90,000 | Planmeca Viso G7, sold new as an authorized Planmeca dealer; quoted on request | Oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, airway and sleep medicine, ENT sinus and temporal bone imaging, dental imaging centers |
| Extremity and orthopedic cone beam CT (dedicated extremity, weight-bearing and full-body weight-bearing) | $300,000 to $500,000 | $150,000 to $300,000 | Planmed Verity and Planmed XFI, sold new as an authorized Planmed dealer; quoted on request. Pre-owned extremity units on request | Orthopedic, podiatry, sports medicine and spine practices, and hospital orthopedic departments |
| Breast CT (dedicated cone beam breast CT) | Quoted on request; no estimate is printed | Quoted per unit when one appears; no band | Koning Vera, sold new as an authorized Koning breast imaging supplier; quoted on request | Breast centers and radiology departments adding diagnostic 3D breast imaging without compression, as a complement to mammography |
Cone beam CT machine cost in 2026 by class: comparison estimates from public list-price reporting beside what Medical Outfitters sells in each class; no Medical Outfitters band exists for cone beam CT.
The same question arrives as CBCT cost, CBCT scanner price, CBCT machine price, CBCT machine cost, cone beam CT machine cost, cone beam CT cost, cone beam CT scanner price, dental CT scanner cost and dental CT machine, and in the short forms cone CT and CBCT, and the table answers all of them; an average across the classes is a number nobody pays. The systems Medical Outfitters sells are in the cone beam CT scanners for sale category, and cone beam CT explained covers how the technology differs from a medical CT.
CBCT Price by Model (2026): Planmeca Viso G7, Planmed Verity, Planmed XFI and Koning Vera
The cone beam CT price list below is the four systems Medical Outfitters sells, each placed in its class with the manufacturer’s published specifications. Every one is quoted on request: no pricing sheet exists for these platforms, and a Planmeca Viso G7 price or a Planmed Verity price depends on the field-of-view package, the software licensed with it, the options fitted and the room, so each quote is written for a named configuration and includes delivery, installation, training and a written warranty. Pre-owned units of each platform are available on request.
| Model | Class and specification | New | Refurbished | More |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Planmeca Viso G7 | Dental, ENT and maxillofacial CBCT: volumes 3 x 3 to 30 x 30 cm (about 30 x 20 cm in one scan); 75 to 600 micron voxels; 60 to 120 kV; Ultra Low Dose, CALM, ProFace; 2D panoramic and cephalometric options; Romexis. Large-FOV class | Sold new as an authorized Planmeca dealer; quoted on request | Pre-owned units on request; the large-FOV refurbished estimate is $40,000 to $90,000, comparison only | Product page, Cone beam CT for sale |
| Planmed Verity | Dedicated extremity CBCT: multi field of view to 16 x 20 cm; 200 to 400 micron voxels; weight-bearing with the gantry tilted horizontal; head and neck option; self-shielded, portable, standard mains power; FDA cleared 2013 (K121418). Extremity class | Sold new as an authorized Planmed dealer; quoted on request | Pre-owned units on request; the extremity refurbished estimate is $150,000 to $300,000, comparison only | Product page, Cone beam CT explained |
| Planmed XFI | Full-body weight-bearing CBCT: 85 cm opening, 43 x 43 cm flat panel, field of view to 23 x 44 cm, resolution to 75 microns, 80 to 140 kV; standing, seated and supine; FDA 510(k) cleared September 2025 (K250318), not cleared for the head in the US. Extremity class | Sold new as an authorized Planmed dealer; quoted on request | No pre-owned units yet (cleared in 2025); quoted per unit when one appears | Product page |
| Koning Vera breast CT | Dedicated cone beam breast CT: the whole breast in a 10-second scan with no compression, patient prone; 0.273 mm standard voxel (0.190 and 0.155 mm high resolution); self-shielding gantry, integrated console, optional on-table biopsy kit; FDA premarket approval P130025 (2015). Breast CT class | Sold new as an authorized Koning breast imaging supplier; quoted on request | Quoted per unit when one appears; no band | Product page, Mammography guide, Koning Vera section |
| Ziehm Vision RFD 3D (3D C-arm, mention only) | A mobile 3D C-arm, not a fixed CBCT: SmartScan builds a cone beam volume (16 x 16 x 16 cm standard) in the operating room on a 31 x 31 cm CMOS panel; priced in the C-arm guide's 3D band; available for sale in the Caribbean | See the C-arm guide | See the C-arm guide | Product page, C-arm guide |
Cone beam CT price by model: each Medical Outfitters system is quoted on request; the refurbished cells carry the class estimates for comparison, not a Medical Outfitters band.
Three notes on the rows. The Planmeca Viso G7 price moves with the field-of-view package and the software: a dental configuration with Romexis implant planning and an ENT or maxillofacial configuration with the ENT programs, the cephalometric arm and ProFace are different quotes on the same gantry. The Planmed Verity price follows the positioning trays, the head and neck option and the Disior analytics modules; the XFI, cleared in September 2025, has no used market. The Koning Vera is a configured quote with the biopsy kit and the site plan inside it.

Other cone beam CT platforms, sourced refurbished on request
The Medical Outfitters dealer lines are Planmeca, Planmed and Koning; every other cone beam CT brand is pre-owned only. When a practice names one of the platforms below, a unit is sourced refurbished on request, tested, delivered, installed and warrantied, and it prices inside the refurbished estimate of its class; no per-model band is published for any of them.
| Platform | Class | How Medical Outfitters supplies it | Where it sits (comparison only) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Planmeca ProMax 3D family (Classic, Plus, Mid) | Dental, small to large field of view | Sourced refurbished on request | Inside the dental refurbished estimates, $20,000 to $90,000 by field of view |
| Carestream CS 9300 | Dental, medium to large field of view | Sourced refurbished on request | Inside the dental refurbished estimates |
| i-CAT Next Generation and i-CAT FLX | Dental and maxillofacial, large field of view | Sourced refurbished on request | Inside the large-FOV refurbished estimate, $40,000 to $90,000 |
| Xoran MiniCAT family (office ENT CT) | ENT sinus and temporal bone | Sourced refurbished on request | Inside the large-FOV estimates; current units near the top of the band |
| CurveBeam HiRise (the earlier pedCAT and LineUP are discontinued) | Extremity and weight-bearing | Sourced refurbished on request | Inside the extremity refurbished estimate, $150,000 to $300,000; discontinued foot-and-ankle units change hands for far less |
Cone Beam CT Price by Field of View: Small, Medium, Large and Extremity Tiers
Field of view is the clearest price ladder in cone beam CT, because the detector size, the reconstruction load and the shielding grow with it. Every figure below is a comparison estimate inside the class bands above, and the Medical Outfitters systems are quoted on request wherever they fall.
| Field-of-view tier | Typical volume | What it images | New, estimated | Refurbished, estimated | Systems |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small field of view | About 4 x 4 to 5 x 5 cm, up to about 8 x 8 cm | Endodontics, single implants, localized pathology, root fractures | $30,000 to $60,000 | $20,000 to $35,000 | Entry dental units; the Viso G7's tooth and teeth programs (Ø3 x 3 to Ø12 x 10 cm) |
| Medium field of view | 8 x 8 to 10 x 10 cm | Full-arch implant planning, third molars, periodontal assessment, both arches, usually with 2D panoramic | $55,000 to $100,000 | $30,000 to $50,000 | Mid-range dental units; the Viso G7's jaw programs (to Ø17 x 17 cm) |
| Large field of view | 10 x 10 to 16 x 17 cm and beyond, to Ø30 x 20 cm in one scan and 30 x 30 cm stitched | Maxillofacial surgery, TMJ, airway and sleep apnea, orthodontics, ENT sinus and temporal bone, the full skull | $100,000 to $180,000 | $40,000 to $90,000 | Planmeca Viso G7 (face, skull and ENT programs), sold new; office ENT CT units pre-owned only, on request |
| Extremity and weight-bearing | Multi field of view to 16 x 20 cm (Verity); up to 23 x 44 cm through an 85 cm opening (XFI) | Foot, ankle and knee under load, hand, wrist and elbow; spine, hips and shoulders on a full-body system | $300,000 to $500,000 | $150,000 to $300,000 | Planmed Verity and XFI, sold new; other weight-bearing CT platforms pre-owned only, on request |
| Breast | The whole breast, chest wall to nipple | Diagnostic 3D breast imaging and 3D-guided biopsy without compression | Quoted on request | Quoted per unit when one appears | Koning Vera, sold new |
Cone beam CT price by field of view: comparison estimates inside the class bands; the program sizes and fields of view are the manufacturers’ published figures.
Used CBCT machine price: what sets it inside the band
A used CBCT machine is priced by its detector, its software and its support status more than by its year. Cone beam systems are usually bought new, as our cone beam CT explainer notes, so the pre-owned supply is thin, and a unit at the 30 to 50 percent below list that the trade reports is a good buy only when six lines are right:
- Flat-panel detector. Age, calibration history and the last phantom and uniformity results; the panel is the part that ages and the most expensive one
- Tube. Exposure count and the date of the last tube change
- Software version and licenses. A supported release, and which modules (implant planning, airway, cephalometric, Disior analytics, DICOM) are licensed and transfer
- Reconstruction workstation. The PC and its operating system, which retire more scanners than hardware does
- Field of view and options. Detector size, the panoramic or cephalometric arm, the cameras, and the trays on an extremity unit
- Registration and shielding records. The state registration, the physicist's survey and the QC records of the room it came from
The used imaging equipment inspection checklist covers the survey for every modality. A platform the manufacturer no longer supports prices at the bottom of its band whatever its hours, which is why a discontinued first-generation foot-and-ankle unit changes hands for far less than the extremity band.
What Moves a Cone Beam CT Scanner Price
Seven things decide where a cone beam CT quote lands inside its class, and the brand is a smaller one than buyers expect.
- Field of view and detector size. The largest step: a 5 by 5 cm endodontic volume, both arches at 10 by 10 cm and the skull at 30 by 20 cm are three detector costs and three reconstruction loads, and the shielding survey grows with them.
- 2D imaging on the same column. Panoramic and cephalometric options replace a separate dental X-ray unit, and most medium and large dental CBCT units fold them in; a dental X-ray machine price for a 2D panoramic unit on its own is a separate, lower question.
- Resolution and dose modes. A 75 micron endodontic mode, a 400 micron low-dose mode, and the dose protocol and motion correction between them (Planmeca Ultra Low Dose and CALM on the Viso G7 and the Verity).
- Software and licensed modules. Implant planning, airway analysis, cephalometric tracing, 3D face photography, surgical-guide export and, on the Verity, Disior Bonelogic analytics move a quote up a tier; the trade reports annual imaging software licenses at $2,000 to $8,000, an estimate for comparison.
- Weight-bearing and positioning. A gantry that tilts horizontal so the patient stands inside it (the Verity) or an 85 cm opening with standing, seated and supine positions (the XFI), with the trays and positioning aids each needs.
- Specialty programs. The ENT programs on the Viso G7 and the head and neck option on the Verity decide which practice the same gantry serves.
- Condition, warranty and support. New with the manufacturer warranty at the top, refurbished with a written warranty in the middle, as-is used at the bottom; and whether the software release is supported, which decides how long the unit stays registered and useful. Brand moves the quote less than any of these, because the manufacturers price by tier and the tier is set by the detector and the programs.
What Is Included in a Cone Beam CT Machine Price?
A Medical Outfitters cone beam CT price is an all-in figure for a named configuration: the system, delivery, installation and calibration by our own crews, applications training and a written warranty. Room shielding where the physicist’s survey requires it, electrical work, PACS and the first service contract are quoted per project. Equipment-only figures published elsewhere, including every estimate on this page, leave those lines out; the second table converts one to the other with the adders the trade reports.
| Line | What to confirm on a cone beam CT quote |
|---|---|
| The system | Gantry, flat-panel detector, positioning, the acquisition and reconstruction workstation, and the software modules by name |
| 2D options | Whether the panoramic and cephalometric arms are in the price on a dental unit, and the head and neck option on a Verity |
| Delivery and installation | Freight, placement, connection, calibration and acceptance testing; included in every Medical Outfitters quote |
| Physics and registration | Who coordinates the physicist's shielding survey and the state registration before the first patient |
| Applications training | On-site training on positioning, the programs and the software; included |
| Warranty | Term, and whether the tube and the flat panel are covered |
| Quoted separately | Room shielding where required, electrical work, PACS and reading workstations, the first service contract, extra software modules and AI add-ons |
| Installed-cost line | Industry reporting, estimated, comparison only | In a Medical Outfitters quote |
|---|---|---|
| Freight and packaging | $2,000 to $8,000 | Included |
| Installation and commissioning | $2,000 to $8,000 | Included, by our own crews |
| Room shielding and electrical work | $5,000 to $20,000 or more, set by the physicist's survey and the state | Quoted per project |
| Software and integration | $0 to $10,000 or more at purchase; imaging software licenses $2,000 to $8,000 per year | Licensed software in the quote; annual licenses and PACS per project |
| Staff training | Included or $1,000 to $5,000 | Included |
Installed-cost lines reported by the dental equipment trade for 2026, printed as estimates for comparison; a Medical Outfitters quote carries delivery, installation and training inside the price, with installation and delivery in-house.
Dental CT Scanner Cost: Dental CBCT by Practice Type
Dental CT scanner cost is the question most CBCT buyers are asking, and the answer is the first two rows of the class table: an estimated $30,000 to $100,000 new for a small or medium field-of-view dental CBCT and $100,000 to $180,000 new for a large-field unit, with refurbished units estimated at $20,000 to $50,000 and $40,000 to $90,000, comparison only. A dental CT machine is the same cone beam technology scaled to the jaws and the skull, usually with 2D panoramic imaging on the same column.
| Practice | What it images | Field-of-view tier | Estimated new, comparison only |
|---|---|---|---|
| General dentistry adding 3D | Single implants, endodontic cases, impacted teeth, localized pathology | Small to medium (5 x 5 to 10 x 10 cm) with panoramic | $30,000 to $100,000 |
| Implant and periodontal practice | Full-arch implant planning, guided surgery, bone grafting | Medium (8 x 8 to 10 x 10 cm) | $55,000 to $100,000 |
| Orthodontics | Both arches, cephalometric imaging, airway, TMJ | Large (10 x 10 cm and above) with the cephalometric option | $100,000 to $180,000 |
| Oral and maxillofacial surgery | The whole skull, orthognathic planning, trauma, pathology, airway and sleep apnea | Large to full skull (to 30 x 30 cm) | $100,000 to $180,000 |
| Dental imaging center | Referred scans across all of the above | Large, with every program | $100,000 to $180,000 |
Dental CBCT by practice type, with the comparison estimate for each tier; the Planmeca Viso G7, sold new by Medical Outfitters, covers every row and is quoted on request.
The Planmeca Viso G7 is the dental system Medical Outfitters sells new: the operator positions the patient with the integrated cameras, draws the volume on screen, and selects anything from a 3 by 3 cm endodontic view at a 75 micron voxel to the whole skull, with Ultra Low Dose setting the exposure and CALM correcting for movement. Its 2D panoramic and cephalometric programs are on the same column, so a practice replacing a panoramic machine often buys the CBCT instead; a dental X-ray machine price for a 2D panoramic or intraoral unit alone is a separate and much lower question. Before comparing two dental CT scanner quotes, check the tier against the case mix, whether the panoramic and cephalometric options are in the price, the software modules licensed, the annual software license, and the shielding survey the state requires before the first exposure.
ENT Cone Beam CT Cost: Sinus, Temporal Bone and Airway
ENT cone beam CT is the large-field class with a different program set: the sinuses, the temporal bone and the middle ear, the nose and the airway, imaged in the office so that routine surgical planning no longer needs a hospital CT referral. The class estimate is the large-field row, $100,000 to $180,000 new and $40,000 to $90,000 refurbished, comparison only; dedicated office ENT CT units price near the top of that new estimate, and the Planmeca Viso G7, which carries Planmeca’s 3D ENT programs, is quoted on request. Planmeca’s published ENT program sizes on the Viso G7:
- Nose: Ø7 x 5 to 12 x 10 cm
- Sinus: Ø10 x 10 to 17 x 20 cm
- Middle ear: Ø3 x 3 to 6 x 6 cm
- Temporal bone: Ø7 x 5 to 12 x 10 cm
- Airways and vertebrae: Ø8 x 8 to 10 x 14 cm
Two notes for an ENT buyer. The Planmed Verity can also be equipped for head and neck imaging (face, dental arch, TMJ, neck, sinuses and teeth per its product page); the Planmed XFI cannot, because its US clearance excludes the head. And cone beam CT does not produce calibrated Hounsfield units, so sinus, temporal bone and airway work belongs on it while soft-tissue neck imaging stays on a medical CT.
Extremity CT Scanner Cost: Weight-Bearing and Orthopedic CBCT
Extremity CT scanner cost is the class with the fewest public figures: an estimated $300,000 to $500,000 new and $150,000 to $300,000 refurbished for a dedicated extremity or weight-bearing cone beam CT, comparison only, derived from the public pricing of the weight-bearing systems sold to orthopedic practices. Medical Outfitters sells two systems in the class new as an authorized Planmed dealer, the Planmed Verity and the Planmed XFI, and quotes each on request; a Planmed Verity price is never a list price, because the trays, the head and neck option and the analytics modules set it.

- Planmed Verity. A dedicated extremity CBCT with a multi field of view up to 16 by 20 cm and 200 to 400 micron voxels; the gantry tilts horizontal so the patient stands inside it for weight-bearing foot, ankle and knee imaging, and seated positioning covers the hand, wrist and elbow. Self-shielded and portable; FDA cleared in 2013 (K121418). Sold new, quoted on request.
- Planmed XFI. A full-body weight-bearing CBCT with an 85 cm opening, a 43 by 43 cm flat panel and a field of view up to 23 by 44 cm, imaging standing, seated and supine patients at up to 75 microns: the spine, hips, shoulders and the extremities under load. FDA 510(k) cleared in September 2025 (K250318), not cleared for the head in the United States. Sold new, quoted on request; no used market yet.
- Other makers’ weight-bearing CT platforms, pre-owned only. A pre-owned unit is found on request and priced inside the refurbished estimate; discontinued first-generation foot-and-ankle units trade far below it.
The class earns its price in the referral it keeps: a standing foot, ankle or knee scan in the office, at a dose the Verity product page compares with a 2D extremity X-ray study. The weight-bearing MRI alternative, the Esaote G-scan, is priced in the open MRI guide’s extremity section, and the mini C-arm in the C-arm cost guide.
Breast CT Cost: The Koning Vera
Breast CT is the fourth cone beam class and the one this page prices least, on purpose. The Koning Vera, sold new by Medical Outfitters as an authorized Koning breast imaging supplier, images the entire breast from the chest wall to the nipple in a 10-second scan with no compression, with the patient prone on a dedicated table; it reconstructs at a 0.273 mm standard voxel (0.190 and 0.155 mm in high resolution), its self-shielding design and integrated console need no separate control room, and an optional biopsy kit gives 3D-guided biopsy on the same table. The Koning breast CT platform holds FDA premarket approval for diagnostic 3D imaging of the breast (P130025, January 2015), read alongside standard two-view mammography; the Vera is Koning’s current version, launched in 2022.
A Koning Vera breast CT cost is a configured quote rather than a list price, as the mammography guide’s Koning Vera section describes it: the system, the biopsy kit if the program biopsies, site planning for a standard stereotactic room, technician training and the service and parts warranties Koning offers for the life of the product. No comparison estimate is printed for breast CT, because the Vera is a Medical Outfitters dealer-line system and because too few pre-owned dedicated breast CT units exist for a refurbished band; a pre-owned Koning system is quoted per unit when one appears. The 2D and tomosynthesis systems it complements are priced in the mammography machine cost guide; Koning reports the dose in the same range as diagnostic mammography.
What a Cone Beam CT Needs in the Room: Shielding, Power and Installation
A dental or ENT CBCT arrives in an office, is bolted down and connected to a wall supply, and is scanning within a week once the physicist’s shielding survey is done; the trade reports a working day for most installations and four to eight weeks from a signed order to the first scan. The room needs the shielding the physicist specifies, reported at $5,000 to $20,000 with room modifications (an estimate for comparison), the state registration of the X-ray source, a standard or light three-phase supply depending on the unit, and a network connection for the workstation and PACS.
- Dental and ENT CBCT (Planmeca Viso G7). A column 155 cm wide and 154 cm deep, 160 to 234 cm high (adjustable for a low ceiling) and 165 kg (364 lb), or 216 cm wide and 180 kg with the cephalostat, per Planmeca’s specifications; a standard exam room with the lead the survey requires.
- Extremity CBCT (Planmed Verity). Self-shielded and portable, it fits almost any radiology room with minimal shielding, needing only standard mains power and an Ethernet connection per its product page.
- Full-body weight-bearing CBCT (Planmed XFI). A compact footprint per its product page; the weight-bearing configuration is a vertical, wall-mounted installation per the FDA clearance record, so the wall and the floor are part of the site survey.
- Breast CT (Koning Vera). A self-shielding gantry with an integrated console, so no separate control room; sized to fit a standard stereotactic room per its product page, with the physicist’s survey, the state registration and the accreditation route handled as a breast CT installation. The electrical requirement is confirmed on the site plan.
Our X-ray room size and requirements post covers the principles of an X-ray room.
How Much Does It Cost to Run a Cone Beam CT?
A cone beam CT is the cheapest class of CT to own after the purchase: the tube and the flat panel are inexpensive to replace next to a medical CT tube, there is no chiller and no slip ring, and the service contract is priced accordingly. Medical Outfitters prices service per system and publishes no contract figure; what the dental equipment trade reports for 2026 is printed below as a rule of thumb, estimated and for comparison only.
| Line | What it covers | Industry reporting, estimated, comparison only |
|---|---|---|
| Annual service contract | Preventive maintenance, calibration, parts and labor, with or without the tube and the panel | 3 to 8 percent of equipment value per year; $5,000 to $15,000 per year on a dental unit |
| Imaging software license | The acquisition, reconstruction and planning software, renewed annually on most platforms | $2,000 to $8,000 per year |
| Tube replacement | The X-ray tube, parts and labor | $15,000 to $40,000, typically every 3 to 7 years |
| AI and add-on modules | Detection, segmentation and planning modules on top of the base software | 10 to 20 percent on the base machine price |
| Physicist and registration | The shielding survey, the state registration and the periodic QC the state requires | Quoted per survey by the physicist; per the state's fee schedule |
Running-cost lines for a cone beam CT: industry reporting printed as estimates for comparison; Medical Outfitters quotes service per system and publishes no contract figure.
A Medical Outfitters service plan covers preventive maintenance with detector calibration and uniformity checks, tube and generator output tests, mechanical and positioning checks, software patches and backups, and the documentation the state inspector asks for; service is not conditional on having bought the system from us. The X-ray service and CT scanner service pages set out how a contract is structured.
New vs Used CBCT Machine Price
Three conditions exist in the cone beam market, and the first is the common one.
- New, sold by Medical Outfitters. The Planmeca Viso G7, Planmed Verity and Planmed XFI as an authorized Planmeca and Planmed dealer, and the Koning Vera as an authorized Koning breast imaging supplier, with the manufacturer warranty, the current software release, training, delivery and installation in the quote.
- Pre-owned, on request. A refurbished Viso G7, Verity, ProMax 3D, CS 9300, i-CAT or weight-bearing unit, found for the configuration a practice names, tested on the detector, the tube and the software, delivered, installed and warrantied. The trade reports pre-owned units at 30 to 50 percent below list, which is where the refurbished estimates on this page sit. Every unit outside the Planmeca, Planmed and Koning dealer lines is pre-owned only.
- As-is used. The lowest price: the unit sold where it stands, with the buyer arranging rigging, installation, calibration, the shielding survey and service. It suits a practice with an engineer on contract; it is the wrong first scanner for a new practice.
A refurbished cone beam system saves less in dollars than a refurbished medical CT, and the saving is eaten quickly by an unsupported software version or a panel at the end of its life. The refurbished imaging equipment page explains what a Medical Outfitters refurbished system includes; if you are replacing rather than adding, we also buy used imaging equipment.
Cone Beam CT vs Medical CT Scanner Cost
A cone beam CT machine costs a fraction of a medical CT scanner, and the gap widens once the room is counted. The dental and ENT estimates on this page, $30,000 to $180,000 new, sit below the refurbished band of the smallest medical CT: our CT scanner cost guide puts a refurbished 16 to 32-slice scanner at $85,000 to $185,000 and a new one at $350,000 to $525,000, delivered, installed and warrantied. An extremity cone beam CT at an estimated $300,000 to $500,000 new overlaps the new 16-slice band and buys a different thing: a standing joint at 75 to 400 microns instead of a supine whole body in calibrated Hounsfield units.
| System | What it images | Price position | Room |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dental and ENT cone beam CT | Teeth, jaws, skull, sinuses, temporal bone, airway | Estimated $30,000 to $180,000 new, comparison only; the Viso G7 quoted on request | Office room, standard or light three-phase supply, modest lead |
| Extremity and full-body weight-bearing CBCT | Foot, ankle, knee, hand, wrist, elbow; spine, hips and shoulders under load on a full-body system | Estimated $300,000 to $500,000 new, comparison only; the Verity and XFI quoted on request | Radiology room; self-shielded on the Verity, a wall-mounted weight-bearing installation on the XFI |
| Breast CT (Koning Vera) | The whole breast, diagnostic 3D imaging and biopsy | Quoted on request | Standard stereotactic room, self-shielding, no separate control room |
| Medical CT, 16 to 32 slices | Whole body, soft tissue, contrast studies, trauma | $85,000 to $185,000 refurbished; $350,000 to $525,000 new (Medical Outfitters CT guide) | Shielded suite designed by a physicist, three-phase power, often a chiller, a control room |
| Medical CT, 64 slices | Adds cardiac and vascular work | $175,000 to $375,000 refurbished; $625,000 to $975,000 new (Medical Outfitters CT guide) | The same suite |
Cone beam CT against medical CT: the cone beam figures are comparison estimates; the medical CT figures are the live Medical Outfitters bands of the CT scanner cost guide.
Which to buy is decided by the anatomy, which cone beam CT vs medical CT covers specification by specification: teeth, sinuses, ears, airway and standing joints are cone beam work; chest, abdomen, trauma, oncology and contrast studies need a medical CT, and practices that need both usually own the cone beam system and refer the rest. The systems in both classes are in the cone beam CT and CT scanner categories.
Which Cone Beam CT Should You Buy?
Five questions settle which cone beam CT to buy.
- What will it image most? Teeth and jaws: a dental CBCT in the small or medium tier. The skull, the airway, the sinuses or the temporal bone: a large-field system, the Viso G7. Standing joints: the Verity, or the XFI when the spine, hips and shoulders are part of the caseload. The breast: the Koning Vera.
- Which field of view, and can you choose it per scan? A fixed small-field unit is the cheapest entry and the hardest to outgrow; selectable volumes on the Viso G7 serve the endodontic and the surgical case on one column. Decide the largest volume the practice will need in five years.
- What is the budget, all-in? On the estimates above, $30,000 to $100,000 new buys a small or medium dental unit, $100,000 to $180,000 a large-field dental or ENT system and $300,000 to $500,000 an extremity system, with refurbished units at roughly half, comparison only; the Medical Outfitters systems are quoted on request with the installation inside the price.
- New or pre-owned? New when the software horizon and the warranty matter, which is most cone beam purchases; pre-owned, on request, when a supported platform at 30 to 50 percent below list fits the budget and the survey on the panel, the tube and the software is clean.
- What does the room allow? A standard room with the lead the physicist specifies for a dental or ENT unit; almost any radiology room for the self-shielded Verity; a wall for the XFI’s weight-bearing installation; a standard stereotactic room for the Vera. Order the shielding survey before the scanner.
Tell us the specialty, the case mix and the room, and we will quote the Viso G7, the Verity, the XFI or the Vera with delivery, installation, training and a service plan in the quote, or find a pre-owned unit on request. The systems we hold are in the cone beam CT scanners category; every modality is priced side by side in our radiology equipment cost table.
Cone Beam CT Machine Cost: Frequently Asked Questions
- How much does a CBCT machine cost?
- An estimated $30,000 to $100,000 new for a small or medium field-of-view dental CBCT, $100,000 to $180,000 new for a large-field dental and ENT system and $300,000 to $500,000 new for an extremity or weight-bearing system, with refurbished units estimated at $20,000 to $50,000, $40,000 to $90,000 and $150,000 to $300,000: comparison estimates from public list-price reporting, not Medical Outfitters prices. The Planmeca Viso G7, Planmed Verity, Planmed XFI and Koning Vera are quoted on request.
- How much does a dental CT scanner cost?
- An estimated $30,000 to $100,000 new in the small and medium field-of-view tiers and $100,000 to $180,000 new in the large-field tier, with refurbished units at $20,000 to $50,000 and $40,000 to $90,000, comparison only. The Planmeca Viso G7, sold new by Medical Outfitters, covers every tier with its selectable volumes and is quoted on request.
- How much is a used CBCT machine?
- An estimated $20,000 to $50,000 for a small or medium field-of-view dental unit, $40,000 to $90,000 for a large-field dental or ENT system and $150,000 to $300,000 for an extremity system, comparison only; the trade reports pre-owned units at 30 to 50 percent below list. The panel, the tube and the software version set the point inside the band. Medical Outfitters supplies pre-owned units on request, tested, delivered, installed and warrantied.
- What is the Planmeca Viso G7 price?
- Quoted on request by Medical Outfitters, which sells the Viso G7 new as an authorized Planmeca dealer: the field-of-view package, the dental and ENT programs, the panoramic and cephalometric options, ProFace and the Romexis modules set it. For comparison, its large field-of-view class is estimated at $100,000 to $180,000 new and $40,000 to $90,000 refurbished.
- What is the Planmed Verity price?
- Quoted on request by Medical Outfitters as an authorized Planmed dealer, for the configuration an orthopedic practice names: the positioning trays, the head and neck option and the Disior analytics modules move it. For comparison, the extremity and weight-bearing class is estimated at $300,000 to $500,000 new and $150,000 to $300,000 refurbished; pre-owned Verity units are available on request.
- How much does the Planmed XFI cost?
- The Planmed XFI, the full-body weight-bearing cone beam CT with an 85 cm opening and a field of view up to 23 by 44 cm, is sold new by Medical Outfitters as an authorized Planmed dealer and quoted on request; it was FDA 510(k) cleared in September 2025 and has no used market yet. Its class is estimated at $300,000 to $500,000 new, comparison only.
- How much does a Koning Vera breast CT cost?
- Quoted on request by Medical Outfitters as an authorized Koning breast imaging supplier: a configured quote with the system, the optional biopsy kit, site planning for a standard stereotactic room, training and Koning's lifetime service and parts warranties, rather than a list price. No estimate is printed for breast CT and no refurbished band exists; a pre-owned Koning system is quoted per unit when one appears.
- How much does an extremity CT scanner cost?
- An extremity CT scanner, a dedicated or weight-bearing cone beam CT, is estimated at $300,000 to $500,000 new and $150,000 to $300,000 refurbished, comparison only, from the public pricing of weight-bearing systems; discontinued first-generation foot-and-ankle units change hands for far less. Medical Outfitters sells the Planmed Verity and XFI new and quotes each on request.
- What does a cone beam CT cost compared with a medical CT?
- A fraction. Dental and ENT cone beam systems are estimated at $30,000 to $180,000 new, below the $85,000 to $185,000 refurbished band of a 16 to 32-slice medical CT on our CT scanner cost guide ($350,000 to $525,000 new). An extremity cone beam CT at an estimated $300,000 to $500,000 new overlaps the new 16-slice band but images standing joints, which a medical CT cannot, in a far simpler room.
- What room does a cone beam CT need?
- A dental or ENT CBCT needs a standard exam room with the lead the physicist's shielding survey specifies, a standard or light three-phase supply and a network connection; the trade reports room modifications and shielding at $5,000 to $20,000, an estimate. The Planmed Verity is self-shielded and portable; the XFI's weight-bearing configuration is wall-mounted; the Koning Vera is self-shielding with no separate control room and fits a standard stereotactic room.
- How much does a CBCT cost to run?
- Industry reporting for 2026 puts a cone beam CT service contract at 3 to 8 percent of equipment value per year, or $5,000 to $15,000 per year on a dental unit, imaging software licenses at $2,000 to $8,000 per year and a tube replacement at $15,000 to $40,000 every 3 to 7 years, all estimates for comparison. Medical Outfitters quotes service per system and publishes no contract figure.
- What is the difference between a cone CT and a dental CT machine?
- None in the technology: cone CT, cone beam CT, CBCT and dental CT machine all describe a scanner that captures a volume in one rotation of a cone-shaped beam and a flat-panel detector. A dental CT machine is a cone beam CT sized for the jaws and the skull; an extremity CBCT applies the same geometry to standing joints and a breast CT to the breast. A CAT scan in the everyday sense is a medical multidetector CT, a different machine.
- Does Medical Outfitters sell cone beam CT scanners new or refurbished?
- Both. The Planmeca Viso G7, Planmed Verity and Planmed XFI are sold new as an authorized Planmeca and Planmed dealer and the Koning Vera new as an authorized Koning breast imaging supplier, each quoted on request; pre-owned cone beam CT systems, including other makers' dental, ENT and weight-bearing platforms, are supplied on request, tested, delivered, installed and warrantied across the United States, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Other cone beam brands are pre-owned only.
