CT Scanner Service, Repair and Maintenance

Fujifilm CT scanner installed by Medical Outfitters in a finished CT suite

Published 29 September 2026. Written by the Medical Outfitters field service team. Response commitments are the ones written into our service contracts; everything else on this page describes how the work is done.

Medical Outfitters services and repairs CT and PET/CT scanners with its own field engineers: emergency repair with same-day or next-day response depending on urgency and location, preventive maintenance and tube monitoring to OEM specification, tube replacement, calibration and parts, on GE, Siemens, Philips, Canon, Fujifilm and Hitachi systems whether or not you bought them from us. We are based in Miami, Florida and cover Florida, the United States, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Engineers are available 24/7 on (305) 885-4045.

This page explains what a CT service visit involves, how fast we respond, how a CT service contract is built and priced with or without tube coverage, what a tube replacement means, and where we work. The purchase side, including what a scanner costs to run, is in the CT scanner cost and price guide.

What We Service

Which CT Scanners Do You Service?

Service contracts, repairs and preventive maintenance are available for GE, Siemens, Philips, Canon, Fujifilm and Hitachi scanners whether or not the system was purchased from us, backed by more than 20,000 parts in stock and the engineers who rebuild our MO Select systems. What we work on most:

PlatformExamplesNotes
GE HealthCareLightSpeed 16 to VCT 64, BrightSpeed Edge, Elite and Excel, Optima CT660, Revolution EVO and ApexThe MO Select refurbished line; deep parts pool, tube availability new and refurbished
Siemens HealthineersSOMATOM Scope, Emotion, Definition AS and goScope is an MO Select platform; scan-second counts decide the tube plan
Canon and ToshibaAquilion 16 to 64, Prime and ONESourced on request; large-detector systems need their own calibration routine
PhilipsBrilliance, Ingenuity and Incisive; Philips PET/CTWe removed a Philips TF PET/CT at Cleveland Clinic Florida in Weston
Fujifilm and the former Hitachi linesSupria 16 to 128 (the 16 and 32 for veterinary use in the United States), SCENARIA and SCENARIA View, sold new by us as an authorized Fujifilm dealerFull warranty on new systems; we installed a Scenaria 128 slice turnkey in Aventura
PET/CTGE Discovery, Siemens Biograph, Philips Gemini and VereosThe CT half is serviced like any CT; detector and coincidence calibration are separate work

Slice count changes the workload more than the brand does, because a 64 or 128 slice system runs more studies and more scan seconds per week than a 16. Our explainer on CT scanner types by slice count and the comparison of CT scanner manufacturers cover the platforms in more depth. For a model not listed, tell us what you run; support depends on the platform and on parts availability.

Emergency Repair

How Fast Can a CT Engineer Reach Us?

Every minute a scanner is down is lost capacity, so the first response is remote and immediate. Our engineers are available 24/7 without automated phone trees: when you call (305) 885-4045 you speak to a trained professional who can start troubleshooting on the call.

  • Emergency response Same-day or next-day service depending on urgency and location, with on-site diagnostics and troubleshooting to pinpoint the fault quickly
  • Priority for contract clients Remote response within 30 minutes and on-site service within 2 hours for local facilities
  • Component and board-level repair Restoring function without the expense of a full assembly replacement where the fault allows it
  • Puerto Rico and the Caribbean Travel days and flights are part of the response time, so we plan them into the contract rather than discovering them when a system is already down
  • Documentation Every repair is recorded with service logs and a post-repair summary, so your records are ready for an accreditation or regulatory review

On a CT the call that matters most is a tube fault: arcing, a loss of vacuum or an anode that will no longer spin means the scanner is off the schedule until a tube is fitted and calibrated, and the difference between one day of downtime and a week is whether the right tube is in stock. The next most common calls are detector and data acquisition faults that show up as rings or bands in the image, high-voltage generator faults, slip ring and gantry drive problems, table failures and cooling faults on a hot day.

What fails most often on a CT

The tube, and it is the single largest line item in a scanner’s life. Exposure and scan-second counts predict it far better than the year of manufacture, which is why tube condition and replacement terms are part of every quote we write. After the tube: detector modules, the high-voltage tank, the slip ring brushes, gantry and table motors, the cooling loop and the reconstruction computer.

Preventive Maintenance

What Does CT Scanner Preventive Maintenance Involve?

CT scanners require regular preventive maintenance and tube monitoring to stay compliant and minimise downtime. Visits run at manufacturer-recommended intervals, at night or during off hours where possible, and each one produces the documentation your accreditation body and state radiation program expect. A preventive maintenance visit on a CT covers:

  • Tube and generator Tube warm-up and conditioning, scan-second and exposure counts logged against the tube’s history, high-voltage checks and cooling-oil condition
  • Detector and image quality Air calibrations and detector checks, phantom tests for CT number accuracy, noise, uniformity, low-contrast and spatial resolution, and a check of the dose display against a reference
  • Gantry and table Slip ring condition and brushes, gantry rotation and tilt, table drive, positioning accuracy and the laser alignment lights
  • Cooling and power Chiller or air-cooling flow, filters, temperatures, line voltage and the uninterruptible power supply where fitted
  • Safety and compliance Interlocks, emergency stops, warning lights, and the records your state radiation program and accreditation surveyor ask for
  • Console and software Error logs, backups, protocol integrity, software patches and connectivity to PACS, the injector and the worklist

All maintenance work follows the manufacturer’s specifications with OEM parts and procedures, and the documentation proves it. That is what keeps a warranty valid, and it is what an accreditation surveyor wants to see next to the physicist’s annual report. Room requirements, shielding and power for a CT suite are covered in the CT cost guide.

Tube Replacement

What Does a CT Tube Replacement Involve?

A CT tube is a consumable with a very long life, rated in scan seconds, and replacing it is the largest single service event the scanner will have. Whether the scanner has a documented tube with most of its life left is one of the first things we check on a used system, and whether a service contract covers the tube is the first thing to check on a contract.

  • Diagnosis Arcing, vacuum loss, bearing noise or a failed rotor are confirmed against the error logs and the tube’s scan-second count before a tube is ordered
  • The tube A new or refurbished tube to OEM specification, matched to the generator and the software revision of the scanner
  • Fitting Removal of the old tube, fitting, cooling-loop and high-voltage connections, then the seasoning and warm-up cycle the manufacturer specifies
  • Calibration Air calibrations and phantom tests so the images and the dose display are back on specification before the first patient
  • Paperwork The tube’s serial number, scan-second baseline and the calibration results, filed with the service record

On a contract, tube coverage is what separates a cheaper agreement from a complete one. A contract with tube coverage costs more per year and removes the one bill that can rival a year of service; a contract without it is reasonable on a scanner with a young tube and a known scan-second count. We write either, and we tell you which one the numbers favour.

Service Plans

CT Service Contracts: What They Cover and What They Cost

There is no one-size-fits-all plan at Medical Outfitters. We listen first, then build the plan around the scanner, its age, how hard it works and what your budget can absorb. Most plans still fall into one of four shapes, and it helps to know the vocabulary before you compare quotes.

Plan shapeWhat it coversWho it suits
Time and materialsNo contract. Each call is quoted and billed as parts, labour and travelLow-utilisation systems, or a facility that prefers to pay per event
Preventive maintenance agreementScheduled visits at manufacturer-recommended intervals, with the documentation you need for regulatory standards; repairs quoted separatelySites with an in-house biomedical team that handles first response
Shared servicePreventive maintenance plus a defined share of repair labour and parts, with your biomeds handling the routine workHospitals and groups with clinical engineering staff
Full servicePreventive maintenance, repair labour, travel and parts, with the response commitments written inImaging centers and practices that need a fixed annual number and one call to make

Four things are separate line items and it is worth reading them separately, because a contract can look complete and still leave the expensive parts out:

  • Parts Which are included, and whether the platform is still supported by the manufacturer
  • Labour On site and remote
  • Travel Frequently billed separately, and the line that matters most for a remote or island site
  • Response time A stated commitment, not an intention
  • The tube In or out, and if in, whether it is capped by value or by scan seconds
  • Software and calibration Whether annual calibration and software support are included

A service contract is priced per year as a percentage of the system value, with or without tube coverage, and the percentage moves with the platform, its age, the response time you need and where the site is. Tell us the scanner, the scan-second count on the tube and your annual volume, and we will quote the plan shapes side by side, with and without the tube.

Parts

CT Parts: Stock, OEM Procedures and Platform Support

Downtime is decided by parts as often as by engineers. Medical Outfitters holds more than 20,000 parts in stock for MRI, CT, X-ray and more, ready to ship same day or next day from Miami, and every repair is performed with OEM parts and procedures so your manufacturer warranty stays valid and the documentation proves the work was done to specification.

For a scanner the parts that decide a repair are the tube, detector modules, the high-voltage tank and generator boards, slip ring brushes, gantry and table motors, cooling pumps and the reconstruction computer. Ask about platform support before you sign a contract, not after a failure: a widely installed, still-supported platform has a deep parts pool, and a rare or end-of-support model can be newer and still harder to keep running.

Coverage

Where Do You Service CT Scanners?

Medical Outfitters is based at 8062 NW 66th St in Miami, Florida, and services CT and PET/CT scanners with its own field service engineers across Florida, the United States, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Where you are decides how a contract is written, so here is how the coverage actually works.

AreaHow we cover it
Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm BeachOur own engineers and rigging crews from the Miami warehouse: Miami, Hialeah, Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Pembroke Pines, Weston, Boca Raton, Delray Beach, West Palm Beach, Jupiter and the towns between
Naples and Fort MyersA two to three hour drive across Alligator Alley; service trips are scheduled accordingly and the same engineers attend
The rest of FloridaMaintenance and repair on service contracts, including Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, Gainesville and St. Augustine
United StatesNationwide from Miami, with same-day or next-day parts shipping
Puerto RicoFull-island coverage through our Puerto Rico legal entity, with travel planned into the contract
CaribbeanEvery island from the Bahamas to Trinidad, with containerized shipping for systems and overnight shipping for critical parts

The Florida imaging equipment page lists the projects behind that coverage, and our guide to MRI installation in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean explains what changes on an island site: customs, freight routing, crane access and the travel days that belong in the response time.

Repair or Replace

Is It Worth Repairing an Older CT Scanner?

Parts availability decides this more often than age does. A widely installed, still-supported platform has a deep parts pool and engineers who know it; a rare or end-of-support model can be newer and still be harder to keep running. When a tube is due on a scanner that also has an ageing detector and no software support, the tube quote is usually the moment to look at the replacement economics in the CT scanner cost guide.

A refurbished replacement usually costs 40 to 60 per cent less than new. Refurbished GE and Siemens scanners come through MO Select, new Fujifilm scanners through our dealership, and current stock is on the CT scanners for sale page. We also buy used CT scanners and remove them ourselves, and mobile and interim CT keeps you scanning while a room is out of use. Our guide to moving an MRI or CT scanner covers what a relocation involves.

Request CT Service or a Contract Quote

Two ways to reach the service team. If the scanner is down, call (305) 885-4045: engineers are on call 24/7. For a preventive maintenance schedule, a contract quote or a fault that is not urgent, the form below reaches the same coordinators and a specialist replies within one business day.

What to have ready shortens the first call:

  • The manufacturer, model and slice count, and the system serial number
  • The error messages and when they started, whether the scanner still boots and warms up, and any change in image quality
  • The tube’s scan-second count if you have it, and the date of the last tube change
  • Whether the system is under a manufacturer warranty or another contract
  • The site address and access hours; for a contract quote, annual study volume and the response time you need

FAQ

CT Scanner Service and Repair: Common Questions

Do you service CT scanners you did not sell?
Yes. Service contracts, repairs and preventive maintenance are available for GE, Siemens, Philips, Canon, Fujifilm and Hitachi scanners whether or not the system was purchased from us. What matters is whether the platform is still supported and whether parts, including the tube, are available for it.
How quickly can a CT engineer reach us?
Emergency response is same-day or next-day depending on urgency and location. Service contract clients get remote response within 30 minutes and on-site service within 2 hours for local facilities. For Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, travel days are planned into the contract. Engineers are on call 24/7 on (305) 885-4045.
How much does a CT service contract cost?
It is priced per year as a percentage of the system value, with or without tube coverage, and the percentage moves with the platform, its age, the response time you need and where the site is. Tube coverage is the line that separates a cheaper contract from a complete one, because the tube is the single largest service event in a scanner’s life.
What does a CT tube replacement involve?
Confirming the fault against the error logs and scan-second count, fitting a new or refurbished tube to OEM specification, the seasoning and warm-up cycle the manufacturer specifies, then air calibrations and phantom tests so image quality and the dose display are back on specification before the first patient.
Do you service PET/CT?
Yes. The CT half of a PET/CT is serviced like any CT; the PET detector ring and coincidence calibration are separate work and are quoted with the platform. We de-installed a Philips TF PET/CT at Cleveland Clinic Florida and supply mobile PET/CT for interim cover.
Can you provide interim CT while ours is down?
Yes. If a scanner is down, a room is being built or a system is being replaced, mobile and interim CT keeps you scanning while the fixed suite is unavailable. We supply the unit, deliver it, service it for the term and collect it.
Which parts of Florida do you cover for CT service?
Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties are served by our own engineers from the Miami warehouse. Naples and Fort Myers are scheduled trips. The rest of Florida, including Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, Gainesville and St. Augustine, is covered on service contracts, and we work nationwide, in Puerto Rico and across the Caribbean.
